Been invited to the February wedding party of one of dh's work colleagues. He is a great guy, but his fiancee is one of those snobby, designer label clad London clones that I don't have much time for anymore.

Problem is I want to be as stylish as possible without spending too much. I know labels count with this crowd and dh has a lot of contacts who'll be going.

I found this and wonder if it will be dressy enough. The wedding is at a registry office and we are only going to the party (on a boat cruising the Thames), but is this too casual?? It is a bit short, but I have good (enough) legs and if I wear tights.

I don't want to wear black because I always wear black!!

I like it, what footwear are you going to wear? Also hat?

I like it but it is short

tbh in feb the most important thing will be your coat

£400 for a dress to a wedding of which you only like half the couple?

Its nice but seems a lot just for the party.

we have a friend's wedding soon amd the woman is a fashionista as are many of her friends so do understand the dilemma.

I know it is so short. My coat is from M & S, so that will have to be ditched straight away.
But I am really not one for fancy labels. I found this dress at a little shop near me and I cannot decide.

Whatever I wear, I feel like I have to be able to say "this is...". I know it is stupid!
These people really are label conscious and it drives me mad.

Dh has many work friends with gf's like that. The men are in their 30's and 40's and the women are twenty-something PA's wearing Chanel.

Sometimes I really hate London.

I have found it locally for £300.
Still way too much. I thought about going to one of those second hand designer shops...but would they know?

I sound really silly I know, but this is the life dh has to lead for work.

better to spend £100 on a dress and £200 on a new coat IMO - you'll get more wear out of the coat anyway

dumb to be so worried about labels

go and get something nice from primark

that'll get them talking

rise above it

Style has nothing to do with designer labels, and you can find and wear something great and look fab. I think you should resist keeping up with Chanel girls.

it's a waste of money.

Let's find you something good, and a new coat too.

see gg and I are talking sense.

Anyway, they'll all swoon over Primark and Top Shop and talk loudly about their bargains.

Why do you care what she would think? It's not ike she is a friend by the sounds of it.
