Has anyone had their wedding dress designed?

I did this - I took in a dress I had and loved, and just had my wedding dress be a changed version of it (plus sleeves, plus higher neckline, different colour, different length).

It worked out well for me, I think.

I did, short and fat and wanted something to suit me for an October civil wedding, she was fab and ran with my ideas and came up with the perfect dress and long coat, only problem was the Duchess of Cornwall copied my idea the next year

I asked a theatre designer mate of mine to do mine and it was dead cheap and fitted perfectly

I hired mine as we were skint at the time, but I really, really wish I'd just gone for it and got the dress of my dreams in hindsight. The dresses look lovely.

A dressmaker made mine and I got it out the other day and thought hmmm...if I lose 7-10lbs I could get back into this, and if I get it shortened I might even wear it again one day. A lot of 'ifs'.
But it was much, much cheaper than a designer wedding dress and better, though I do think all this malarky about a 'perfect dress' can get out of hand and obsessive. It is only one day and you won't wear it again.

I think the dresses on the website are lovely btw (not the fancy dress ones in lurid purple though!) and amazingly, look fantastic on the real life brides. IME most wedding dresses don't seem to look anything like the same on real women as they do on the model shots.
If you are slender I think one would look lovely. An heirloom for a daughter?

Alexander McQueen did mine. It was a lot of fun. I chose him because he'd designed a lot of Kate Winslet dresses at the time and we had similar figures. ie. please do something with these norks and take 2 stone off my arse, ta v. much

The 18thC corset dress is divine. It's very elegant but also a show stopper with absolutely no hint of meringue. And it will suit your slim build. DO IT!!!!

Even if you are a AAA cup, I think that flat fronted corset will give you a cleavage!

I will be hvaing mine designed, whem I got married first time my adult bridesmaid dressed were designed and then a friend went on to use one as a bridesmaid dress.

I did.

I took along cuttings of the styles of dresses I like and she came up with a design that would suit me. She then made it. Had about 2 or 3 fittings along the way...

I was very pleased with it.

I tried on loads of dresses and then took the bits I liked and had them put into mine I went to the dressmaker and said this is what I would like she then altered it to my shape ..It actually ended up being very very simple. As I had a winter wedding I had a long coat made as well. NOt as designer ish as these ones though.... It took 4 months from first fitting and she came with me to buy the material.

I had mine designed - but luckily for me I have a friend who is a dress designer, specifically wedding dresses and he did it for me at mates rates. BUT I do think it's a worthwhile expense to get the perfect dress and also not actually that much more expensive than buying many off the peg (and then hanging around for ages for it to be altered to fit you anyway).

if you only have a vague idea a good designer will work from that and come up with ideas until you find something

I had mine designed, as i've got huge boobs and there was no way I could carry off one of those off the shoulder numbers that seem to be in all the shops.
Designer sat down with me, talked about what styled suit me, did some drawings and then I went to a load of fittings. She even used some embroidered flowers from my mothers' wedding dress to add some detail to mine.
Good luck, I loved going for the fittings and watching it take shape. Plus I knew that no one else would ever wear one the same.
