I know this has been done before, but I want to sort my bikini-line out, but think the pain of waxing could be unbearable. Is it really bad, what tips do you do to reduce pain, and what are the alternative??? TiA xx

I use Veet or Nair sensitive hair removal cream without any problems or pain.

jazzicat I had it done last year for the first time, age 32: legs, bikini and armpits. I was terrified.
trust me, it's not that bad. and it is definitely worth it!! a bit like childbirth!

go for it.

I am going next week as well - before holiday, second time since then. the trick is, like chilbirth once again, to try to be relaxed. Tell the person that does it that it is the first time as if they are half good they'll make you talk away to ease the nerve. mine made me talk about my impending wedding and after I thought 'she didn;t give a right a**e!'

Find a salon that uses hot wax. It is more expensive than strip wax, but is less painful and gives better results. Also, I take a painkiller an hour before an appt.

Here is a perculiar question. If you sat there with a pair of tweezers, would it have the same result?

I thought they always use hot wax in saloon, don't they? thanks for tip I should ask when booking from now on. and will try the painkiller.

Pippi - hot wax doesn't use fabric/waxed paper strips. It gets applied directly to the skin, and then gets peeled off, a bit like a peel-off face mask. The hair gets peeled off in the hardened wax (it's a bit like candle wax!). It's quite hard to find a salon here that does it, but well worth it if you do.

oh, I though the one I had was hot wax... mind the wax was hot but they used strips so not the one you mention.
will check now...

pippi - don't go just before or during your period and take nurofen as much best.

My salon uses hot wax which applies with an applicator that is like an electric shaver - seems to apply a good amount of wax that comes off really easily. Can even bear to have my legs done now (used to shave as hated them doing the front of my legs)

Apologies, as I'm not adding anything valuable to the debate, but I just wanted to thank Jazzicatz because I've been really narky today and your thread title has been one of the few things to bring a genuine smile to my face whenever it has popped up. So thank you

Not that I have any experience - tweezers would have the same effect - pulling hairs out roots and all.

Now my epilady would effectively do the same job - but trust me I ain't going there.

On "how to look good naked" a tip was - trim the hair down before you have it waxed, apparently it hurts less than really long pubic hair being ripped out....

busybean you are making me change my mind... but yes I think you are right, I heard that too

I have done it myself with bikini wax kit. My theory was put it on and then I had no choice to pull it off. You have to apply strip and smooth in direction of growth then as you pull strip off (opposite direction) pull skin tought away from direction your pulling strip. Not too painfull, over quicker then doing your legs!

jenwa · 28/05/2007 22:47

shorter hair is not always easier to pull out as it may not attach to others and end up being plucked out. I needs to be a decent length to pullout otherwise may snap and will be left with stubbly root.

pain of waxing is defintily wotrth the result.
