To get the haircut I want?

I need to get my hair cut, it's not been done since the. new year but I keep putting it off as I hate having it cut as i never end up with what I ask for. My hair is naturally wavy/soft curls and I don't like it dried flat and straight. At the moment it's below my shoulder.blades and has some layers. The trouble is that when I ask for long layers I end up with shorter ones on top that don't blend in with the rest if that makes sense. so it looks like two different hair cuts. I quite often leave it to dry and tame any odd bits with the straightness to flick or curl. And why is it that hairdressers only want to dry it straight when I ask for it bouncy with the ends curled? Any tips to get what I want?? Thanks

Show them this post! Take pictures, I'm a stylist and pictures are so helpful, and also telling them your daily hair routine and what you do to style it. And pay for what you get, a cheap bog standard salon with inexperienced stylists won't be able to offer a good cut like a more expensive experiences stylist!

Thanks Elsie. I have tried pictures a couple if times but I will give it another go. I've tried various salons some more expensive than others but to be honest I don't know how much I should pay. The last time was £90 but that was for highlights and a cut/finish. I live in the north and not in a city or large town.I usually colour my roots myself, had plenty of practice on that as I live abroad for a while , no hairdresser near by,so I did it myself.
