Pedicure with toenail infections?

thecherryontop · 30/07/2014 21:33

I really want to have a pedicure but I have 2 toenail infections on each of my big toes which the dr has prescribed me tablets for but which are taking forever to clear up.... Would it be a bit scummy of me to ask someone to give my feet a pedicure? Grin

Any decent therapist wouldn't give you a pedicure at the moment for fear of spreading the infection to your other toes.

Wait for your medication to work, don't put yourself and others at risk.

Thanks, I know you're right even though it's not what I wanted to hear. Hmm

My aunt had the same issue. She mentioned it in advance to the salon and they were happy to give her a pedicure as they sterilize the equipment after use and the files they use there are single use anyway.

However they weren't happy to use their nail varnish and asked her either to bring her own or buy a whole bottle of theirs (which she did).

Check with your local salon and see what they say.

I haven't had a pedicure which I used to LOVE for years because I've been having 'a viral wart under the nail' treated for over 4 years Confused £150 a time (consultant private dermatologist) and the nail's still greyish, I am aware of the irony; that the infection either came from a pedicure somewhere or a spa/pool but I don't know anyone else who's ever had one Blush and I really want it to go so I can have pedicures again Sad

I've never seen a beautician use sterile products. They use sterilising liquid which doesn't 'sterilise' enough to kill fungal spores. To sterilise it either needs to be single use and sterile or go through an autoclave.
Don't risk spreading your fungal infection to other nails.
