I felt like charity shopping the lot. Which would mean I'd have nothing to wear Grin

What's the min/max I 'need' ? So 2 pairs sandals, 2 pairs of shorts, x amount of tops
?

I've got clothes from the 2000's...probably from the 90's too...Blush

I think you reach a comfortable level when you know you have enough items that you are happy to wear (things that make you feel good), and then can update as/when you see something you love (and have the cash to get it!). I don't think there is a magic number. What you need depends on what you do every day.

I would go through and make a pile of everything that does not make you feel good (eg makes you feel frumpy etc), is worn, dated or doesn't fit properly. Include stuff you haven't work in over two years (unless it is amazing). Ditch it if you can - or at least put it in a suitcase and see if you can live without it while you find better stuff! Then go shopping!

I agree with Walnut8, pull everything out of the wardrobe and have a proper sort out and if you're anything like me you might even find some clothes you've forgotten about!

Also, how creative are you/good with a needle and thread? I often alter old clothes, either just a wee restyle or a complete overhaul in some cases, to make clothes feel more up to date.

Check you r colour analysis online - some say its not as accurate but it helped me get rid of a lot.

If you like to stay broadly on trend google 2014/15 autumn/winter to get an idea what might be good to hang on to. Look in some shops to see what they are starting to get in as a guide too.

BUT that aside which is what I have done is really choose the stuff you like and feel comfortable in and^ look good on you.

Maybe keep basics such as neutrals - black, blue, navy grey. Then build wardrobe around these with some up to date looks.

It is as others have said a very good idea to get stuff out a lay it on bed. I thought a jacket was a gonna because it looked awful on me but then I discovered two longline tops to go underneath with a loose scarf for a sort of shabby/country look (if thems the words i dont know) but the point is I liked it and breathed new life into how I looked in it. Cant wait tiwear again tis autumn.

The rule is to get rid of anything you have not worn for two years. Ive been brutal and had to face upto getting rid of stuff I have never worn, or not worn for over 3 years.

Not mad on shorts. I would get 4 dresses, 1 pair sandals, 1 pair of pumps.

could you ask a friend or trusted relative for their opinion and ideas on how to put things together to breathe fresh air into your stuff? I love it when my neice suggests wearing stuff that I just wouldn't have thought of. Also maybe poss to swap some things ...

I'm sick of all my clothes too but there's nothing great in the shops at the moment to replace them with. Maybe start sorting out your autumn winter clothes and make to do what you've got till the end of the summer. Is to late in the season for buying summer clothes.

Twinklestein - Love the fact you're not keen on shorts ! I've just had enough of all my sh*t & sling on the shorts, t-shirt or vest ( I have several which are same styles, different colours Grin & a co-ordinating scarf.

Broke from the mould today & wearing a dress (boden but quite nice). Also nipped into town & bought 3 dresses, which means I should get rid of some of the rubbish & have something to wear.

I'm a SAHM so wear the same stuff...I need a job so I can wear nice clothes !

Thanks for all suggestions...I think if I got everything out of cupboards, DH would have to send in a search party to find me !
