What are barefoot sandals?

Here on Etsy.

Pretty pieces of crochet draped around your foot. But what practical use are they? Confused

They aren't sandals, as in they don't cover your sole. But they are footwear. Are they anklets? I think my head is going to explode...

Please tell me I need them. I seem to have missed some important sandal-related memo.

I see them on the crochet pages I follow (a hobby of mine). They are very popular at the moment but I'm not so bothered by them. They have no sole and are just thread crocheted into a lacey pattern and looped around a toe. I guess they dress up your feet in you are going around barefoot but I don't really see the point myself. My dad always tells me about being so poor as a kid that he used to lace up his toes... Hmm :o Looks like he might have been telling the truth!

I think Fitzers is right - just to make your feet look pretty when you are bare footed.

Yep, that's what I suspected. Prettifying pieces of string... Grin

I can see myself wearing these on the beach. Knowing me they will snag on the rocks and I'll end up trailing around wisps of seaweed. But better than walking around with loo paper on your shoe, I guess... Blush

I've seen people wear them for beach weddings, where they want to be barefoot but 'decorated'. I guess nice for a stroll in the sand, less nice for a rock pool scramble!

Ooh they do look pretty. You'd be the belle of the yoga class if you rolled up in these!

My DD has been making these out of loom bands, she'll be thrilled to find out they are a real thing.

Really MrsCakes? Can she teach me DD how to make them too? I'd she'd really like some using the pastel coloured 'glow in the dark' Hmm bands!

Oh.... I was hoping they were sandals made of some UV-transparent material which protected your sole without getting sandal-tan... turns out they're the exact opposite!

You can also make your own barefoot sandals at home; you can find some patterns on Google. Just follow the steps and you will make your own sandals. I personally love crochet and it is one of my hobbies, I used to make pouches and bags for my kids.
