Any recommendations? I see that P20 is on offer in Sainsburys and just wondered if there was something similar which doesn't stain as much.

Think it's called calypso- will check later! But it's clear liquid, quite runny. Does stink, like nail varnish remover though!!

Ultrasun. I buy online from John Lewis.

I like Boots Once.

I like the soltan from boots as it seems very effective on DD, factor 50. However it is very thick and gunky and does stain clothes horribly.

I'll watch this thread with interest...

I'm very fair and use Piz Buin's 1 day long lotion. Only fair to say that there was some publicity a while ago that some people had an allergic reaction to it, but I'm allergic to loads of things and have never had any problems with it at all, nor has anyone in our family. No staining of clothes and not even a tiny bit of sunburn.

I've just started using P20 this week and love it. Does it really stain clothes?

I've been using the Calypso once a day. I can only smell it when I first put it on. Doesn't stain. Doesn't feel sticky and clagy on my skin and it helps with my heat bumps and photo sensitivity.

Ultrasun. Buy from Waitrose or John Lewis. Non staining and I have had non of the usual heat rashes I used to get since using it.

I like the Nivea one, it lasts ages and doesn't stain. Not sure if it's all day but it works better than anything else I've used.

I bought some Calypso clear sunscreen from a recommendation on here and can confirm that it does what it says on the tin. The initial smell is horrible, but once absorbed it isn't smelly or sticky.

You do need to apply it 45 minutes before going into the sun though.

I do this before I get dressed so that it can absorb properly and I can wash my hands.

I also like Piz Buin 1 day long but they have changed the formulation so it is now has only 3 star UVA protection whereas before it had 5 star UVA. They must have taken all the good stuff out that maybe some people were reacting to (none of us have had a reaction to either formulation).

I am very fair and P20 is the only stuff that I have used that i can apply once a day, whatever the temperature.

But it does stain horribly - bikinis only last a year max - and stings like mad if you have just waxed

We've been using the Aldi Lacura factor 50 water resistant one. Apply to the kids in the morning and they've been in and out of the pool all day every day this week and they're not even slightly tanned. We don't reapply at all. Very happy with it.

mrs it doesn't stain immediately, but anything white takes on a grubby yellow colour over a period of a cour of weeks.

I love P20. Have used it for years and have never noticed any staining

Have used boots soltan once a day and found that to be good as well

XiCi · 26/07/2014 17:50

Pastperfect I take it you would only have staining then if you wore a white bikini?

I think I'd rather just keep using P20 and avoid white swimwear

Don't get p20 in your eyes. i had to see a medic on holiday to have them washed out

xici white bikinis only? No not at all, although anything white obviously shows stains more than darker colours.

Anything pale gets trashed and if you wear costume jewellry not only does it get ruined but it will turn your skin very green. Plastic sunglasses will also dissolve if in prolonged contact.

In the past I've used it a lot (I live somewhere hot) and do still use the stuff but you have to be careful with what it comes into contact with - it strips nail varnish FGS Grin

Boots Once. The kids water resistant gives I think 6 hours cover with 3 hours water play.

I use P20 and have never noticed any staining but I wondered why the nail varnish keeps peeling off my big toe - you have enlightened me PastPerfect!

Brilliant. Thank you all so much for suggestions. Pastperfect, thanks for your comments. I'll steer clear of P20 as I've suffered from staining in the past, but not to the extent that you're describing!

Ultrasun seems to be the winner at the moment, followed by Calypso...

Thanks! I'll keep on with the p20 and see if I notice staining. Now I know what to try instead if I don't like it...

I like Boots Soltan Once Invisible. It is clear and light like P20 but doesn't stain or smell as badly. We have dumped P20 now and haven't burnt this year so ir seems okay on the protection front too.

I have used P20 for years. Not noticed any staining since they changed the formula about 8 years ago. Not noticed any other problems with it either, kept my shellac and fake tan for my hols whilst using it every day, and it works really well. I am pale and use the factor 30 version.

It is expensive tho so I might try and calypso one next.
