Why line a silk dress with polyester?

Just that really. Ordered some silk dresses, one unline, which I will keep, but 2 lovely ones lined with polyester.
The whole point of getting silk was to have a natural, cool fabric.
Oh well.
And the one I am keeping is a bit short and rather big, so perfect for a hot holiday or the weekend at home, but not the office, as I had originally intended.

Ugh, what a disappointment. Hate hate hate polyester. The only reason for manufacturers to do this would be cost i think.
Check the care labelss - they may say dry clean only due to different fabrics being used. Another reason to return them?

I thought it was because silk lined with silk creates static, which isn't a good look!

I agree though, it does rather cancel the breathable-ness of the silk.

I would be curious to know what silk should be lined with (money no object of course!).

Don't know why but drives me crazy. Even really nice, not cheap dresses from Jaeger (c.£250 full price) are lined in polyester. Seriously, charge £10 more and put a breathable lining in for frick's sake.

Yes, I don't get it. Polyester is universally hated and revolting to wear but there's so much of it in the shops. Who's buying it?

Dresses in the sales, ine from Whistles and the other was Jaeger.
I would happily pay a bit more for a natural fabric lining.
As far as silk on silk goes, I have no idea about static, so will try the rubbing trick. But when you are asking quite a lot for a frock, surely a little bit more wouldn't impact the margin too much?

I'm sure there's a regular poster on a and b who teaches textiles and knows about all this stuff? Orangesandlemons maybe? Anyway I'm sure she said that it has to be polyester because it 'slips' better. And yy to static if silk lined with silk.

Why not leave unlined? I would then just get a thin petticoat, if it made all that much difference.

Lovely childrens dresses in debenhams ..cotton and fully lined polyester...even the top. Totally silly . Same style in M&S exactly the same.Monsoon its all cotton!
