Tube mascara revisited, opinions please.

I'd given up on wearing mascara a few years ago. chemo treatment made them fall out and re growth was sparse. And my eyes still water a lot.But then I read here about tube mascaras! Do they really really do everything I've read here, like thicken lashes and, crucially, not give you panda eyes?

I mostly wear Clinique (cos I'm a frequent visitor to the U.S. And it's so much cheaper) but my next visit isn't until end Sept.

If Clinique gets the thumbs-up here, tho, I'll buy at their July sale, otherwise is there another make you can recommend, please?

V. Many thanks for replies/advice (even if it IS 'don't bother, they don't work)!
Cheers.

I swear by L'Oreal beauty tubes double extension. Its the only mascara that I always go back too. It gives me massive lashes and just drops off in e shower with warm water and its usually about 7.

Do you mean the ones that come off with warm water? If so then the Clinique one is great. No 7 one is good too, it's in a gold tube.

Tubing mascaras really are awesome. Most mascaras - cheap and expensive, waterproof and non-waterproof, supposedly smudge proof - smudge on me within a few hours. But tubing mascaras don't.

I've not used the tubing mascara from Clinique, but I've used the L'oreal one mentioned by gaggiagirl - and it's brilliant. I do find it difficult to get a very natural and everyday kind of look with it - on me it looks like I'm wearing (a lot of) fake lashes if I'm not careful when applying it. It does come off easily with warm water - I used to use cotton pads with hot water, leave them on the lashes for 30 secs or so and then the mascara would just slide off the lashes like little black tubes.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara is very nice too. More natural and great for every day, but can most certainly also be built up. It doesn't come off as easily as the L'oreal one, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Clinique usually make very good mascaras and I've always been quite happy with them (until something started making all mascaras smudge on me). Their products are pretty good for sensitive skin and I know a lot of people who can only use Clinique mascaras.
I do think that Clinique has a return policy in case you get a bad reaction to their products so it's worth asking.

I like the B. Range from superdrugs mascara. All of them are tubing and a great price.
The loreal one used to flake on me, these don't. So the gold no 7 is tubing? What's it called? I've not heard of that.

The No 7 one in the gold tube is called Stay Perfect. It's not my dream mascara, but the tubular smudge free aspect is very handy.

I love blinc - the original tubing mascara I believe. (My ghast is flabbered that I can now get it from mere l'Oreal). I am a swimming teacher and it never smudges!

Which do you prefer specialmagiclady - blinc or l'oreal?

Thanks so much everyone, I reckon I can call in at Boots and Superdrug locally on Thursday. B Range (Superdrug) and No.7 Stay Perfect on my list. And also l'oreal if Boots stock it.

Reckon I can give one or all of these a go, then finally get back to some semblance of how I used to look.

Yayy!!

What is tube mascara? I've never heard of it and I'm the queen of panda eyes.

Clinique lash power tubing mascara is the only one that does not smudge on me (but it's expensive!)

All normal mascaras give me panda eyes, I've never tried a different tubing mascara though

Report
Jumblebee · 23/07/2014 08:51

sharingeverythingtwice it's mascara that tubes your eyelashes! You just need a bit of warm water and it kind of just slides off.

From a fellow queen of the panda eyes look, you have to try it, I swear you will not go back! Grin

The absolute BEST mascara I have used, which I assume is tubing as it practically rolls of my lashes when I rub my eyes, yet stays on brilliantly without smudging etc - and looks fab! - is Dreamweave.

I've found it here which is on a link from their Facebook page. It is fairly pricey at £12.99 which is a shame - I've only ever bought mine from a wholesaler that comes into work. They sell them at cost for £6 each!

Honestly though, hands down the best mascara I have ever used. Looks great on, comes off easily with just water, and also lasts well. The tube I'm using now I've had since before Christmas.

The L'Oreal one has a white primer - I find it completely pointless and have not used it more than once. But the mascara bit really is awesome and the primer really isn't needed.
I do feel like the L'Oreal one is a bit plastic-y when on the lashes compared to the one I've tried from Estee Lauder, but it's not something that bothers me when wearing the mascara - it's just a matter of getting used to it.

You can read about what the tubing mascara is and how it is different from the classic mascara formulas here: www.elle.com/beauty/makeup-skin-care/tubing-mascara-283834?click=main_sr

I gave up on Blinc. not for oily skin. on upper lashes, it would come off within hours on inners and outers
On lower lashes.. well within literally five minutes I'd have tubes all over my cheeks (and i don't even moisturise!)

alltoomuchrightnow · 23/07/2014 17:21

can't use anything apart from Clinique's Lash Power. and even then i have to use Clarins Double Fix first on lower lashes

Blinc is also horribly flaky on me. I'd spend all day picking out clumps and tubes literally off my eyeball surface! Lash Power all the way for me. Used to be Kanebo Lavshuca but water had to be really hot to get it off..actually burnt skin once and got a lovely red vein now on eyelid

Hello peeps! (Fluttering newly-defined eyelashes)....here's my first update.

I went to my local shopping centre today, Superdrug and Boots on my list. Plan was to buy recommended Superdrug B range, the Boots No7 Stay Perfect , apply one to each eye and compare how they were during a hot afternoon at home.

First off, my local Superdrug doesn't hold the range - need to visit larger town to buy it. Will poss be able to do on Sat. And so on to Boots.

They'd got the No7 Stay Perfect in brown/black which was just perfect. Bought it with my points anorl.

Applied at home 4.00ish, sweaty afternoon on a south-facing terrace, so far (after 8.00 pm and having slaved over a hot stove), no panda eyes!!!

Need to be at home all day tomorrow but Saturday I'll hit the Big Shops for more trials.

Kisses and fluttering eyelashes to you all,

the Mouse.
