Thick, coarse curly hair is freaking out in this hot humid weather. Help!

My usual routine is not working so well in this steamy weather. I put coconut oil on my hair for about 6 hours on Sunday then shampooed it out and styled as usual - it worked really well but today the frizz is back with a vengeance. Any recommendations of new products to try? Nothing even vaguely like Frizz Ease or similar silicone based stuff though.

I love the Body Shop Rainforest shampoo - any other products in that range that you would recommend?

Thanks

I'm in the same boat I'm afraid although my curls are silky rather than course.

I bought some cheap Argan Oil serum from Home Bargains which is no silicone, it seems to be the best thing so far. I also like the Body Shop coconut pomade stuff.

I just seem to be loading products on though at the moment, I bought some of the new Frizz Ease spray stuff that recently been advertised - it's ok, but I've used nearly half of it on about 4 hair washes because my hair just drinks product Sad

I can't find a picture of the hair one, but it's from the same range as this. Asda have had the shampoo and conditioner as well.

I have always found the bodyshop coconut pomade in a little tin to be good on my coarse hair. Also Bumble & bumble curl conscious creme. They do one called defrizz which I haven't tried yet as it is pricey but the defining creme is good (you put it on wet hair after washing). It is about £20 ouch but a little does go a long way.

Have a look on the British Curlies website & forum - I found some really useful advice there...

Hi I have curly (Boticcelli according to British curlies) long hair. I use Body Shop rainforest moisture range and really recommend the nourishing hair butter after the shampoo. It is great and helps keep frizz at bay. Also U.Giannini pink gel and Boots curl cream on very wet curls, go easy and just pat dry with microfibre towel or tshirt to avoid upsetting hair cuticle.
And Garnier Ultimate Blends The Sleek Restorer conditioner (brown bottle, dirt cheap at Tescos) is good for condition washes in between shampoos and silicon free so no build up.

Living Proof No Frizz products are the best I've ever tried - knock seven shades of shit out of Frizz Ease. Expensive but last and work.

...and silicone free.
I use the shampoo, conditioner and nourishing cream. Available and Space NK

Try a chemical straighten. It's life changing.

Thanks Nancy, yikes at the price though! Ponkernonsir, I don't want straight hair though, I love my big hair, just not the frizz!

It only straightens it for about a week and then it just calms it down. It's like having your best hair day every day. My hair is like an old Nan's beard and yet now I'm Kate Middleton. (On cake.)

I have very dry and coarse curly hair and find that it gets more uncontrollable when it needs washing. If you washed it on sunday then it probably needs washing again especially if it has products put in daily.
I used to think that not washing it too often was the key to keeping it manageable and less dry but now I know that I have to wash it at least every 3-4 days or more if I have exercised or added too much products.

Miss, you're right about the washing - it doesn't really get greasy, it gets drier and drier until you wash it again. It just loves moisture and wants to be wet all the time!

I agree *Lotta" I wash mine with BS rainforest range every 5-6 days and always apply the hairbutter for at least 5 mins after shampooing, but in between (every other day) I just condition wash with the Garnier conditioner to keep curls fresh and hydrated without stripping it out with too much shampooing, even if I only shampoo with a no sulfate gentle range. Also if I dont disentangle often it is a nightmare and takes forever as I don't brush my curls (worse thing you can do I am sure you realise).
And like you if it gets dirty it looks dryer rather than greasy, so the key is to keep that moisture locked as much as poss. for frizz free locks.

I second Loreal Elvive Extraordinary oil - I always receive compliments when I've used this. Don't know if it contains silicone (have just been to check bottle - can't see - writing too small!).

Oh yes Soy, I haven't had a brush near my head for years! Ok, think I will take a punt on the Extraordinary Oil. Thanks all!

Oh no! Have done a bit more research and apparently the Extraordinary Oil is full of silicone. I've never had any luck with silicone in the past so back to the drawing board :-(

Soy, thank you thank you! I got the Rainforest butter and used it as a leave in -,hair looks loads better, soft and shiny and no frizz. Its only £8 and I reckon a tub may last me a month. Good times!

You are welcome Lotta it is great stuff no?
If you register online with Body Shop they regularly have 40 or 50% offers on, so I tend to stock up on a few tubs when that happens and get it delivered home.
I have never used the hair butter as a leave in (usually I rinse out after 5 mins), but it is so gentle that I might try myself too.

Once you start using regularly you will see a difference in your curls condition and fingers crossed frizz will be history Smile

Just checked my inbox. Right now Body Shop have online offer, get 10 off when you spend 25, or 25 off when you spend 50.
Enter code COOL on checkout.
I never pay full price for the rainforest moisture range as there are always online offers on (and I also LOVE their body butters).

Thank you for the code! My hair is so dry that I use every conditioner as a leave in - rinse out just doesn't touch the frizz!
