I love Banana republic cardigans - especially their Ana range. Keep their shape and wash well. Get on their mailing list for discounts

I've got a couple from Oasis that are quite nice.

I've got own brand John Lewis ones from about 3 years ago that have lasted really well and only recently started to look a bit tired, and I've worn them loads both for work and outside work.

Not sure what JL have at the moment but worth a look.

I have some from M&S that I've had for years. They were relatively cheap.

I have a few from Matalan which have pearly shell buttons. They look good and wash really well. I have navy, black and a deep pink.

Woolovers
Ignore frumpy website pics; good quality basic cardies in wool, cashmere/merino and cotton

I've had some lovely and very cheap ones from H&M, in bright-ih colours

Wool overs, really? I have only ever seen their catalogue, which I find unintentionally hilarious. Some items loon pretty dire, regardless of the photo. Are their plain, normal-looking cardis quite good, then? Who'd know!

I know it's called wool overs but I can't help reading it as woo lovers

I disagree on Woolovers. I find their cashmere/merino mix unbelievably poor quality - terrible pills after one or two wears. I am about to give in yo Brora...

Woolovers had some quality issues a few years ago, but I ordered a plain navy cardigan a fee months ago and am very pleased with it.

Uniqlo cotton cashmere

Woolovers - look for the silk cotton cropped cardi and size down. I have a little grey one that goes with anything and looking to get a couple more colours. (Not a great selection but at least they have the neutrals).

I have two cashmere-merino things from there - one is brilliant, worn and washed endlessly, no bits. One terrible and pilled just like panda said. Confused

Uniqlo extra fine merino - two styles of cardi, several colours, £29.90 a pop.

Thin enough for summer but also warm enough for a centrally heated winter ...!

H&M.
I have around 10 cardigans in different colours, about a tenner each which means I can afford to replace as often as necessary.
