For me it didn't because it (Liz Earle and the superdrug version) were just too moisturising and rich for my slightly oily skin. I use micellar water and kiehls midnight recovery oil now, and haven't had a spot for months Smile

Mine got worse and stayed worse (with superdrugs own and Liz Earle) but I could actually feel it was wrong for my skin while using it too, not itchy or anything, just that 'this is going to break me out' feeling.

Are you using a new cloth each time, and washing them in a really hot wash?

Yes mine did. I had a really bad outbreak when I started to regularly use it, but I don't get outbreaks any more (the odd hormonal ones yes) but my skin looks and gels better and much more even. How long have yoy been using it for?

been using a botanics cleanser and foaming face wash in the morning. clean cloth every time. cloths are hot washed

it seemed to get better, and now is really bad. period not due yet so can't be that.

should I stop and just cleanse normally?

The foaming cleanser will suck the oil from your skin and the hot cloth cleanser will overload it with oil. Bet you feel tight after the foaming cleanser?

I've always been told that purging being a good thing is actually a myth. The breakouts that people seem to experience when using new products are more likely to be an allergic reaction to ingredients (which the skin will get de-sensitised to after a while) or using products that just doesn't work with the skin type.
Some people also experience a similar reaction if they are too brutal with face brushes/scratchy cloths and so on.

I'd recommend finding a different product.

I used the Boots Botanics hot cloth cleansing balm and I really didn't like it. It left a greasy film on my skin and made me break out a bit.
I really like Clinique take the day off cleansing balm which doesn't leave that greasy film on my skin and doesn't make me break out.

InStyle's July magazine has a free large sample of the Ren hot cloth cleanser and a cloth so that might be worth trying - the normal size is around £16.

If you started using the cleanser and the face wash at the same time, it could be either of them causing the issue - or both.

I think purging is a myth. If it's not working after 2-3 days I try something else! Otherwise, exactly how long do you wait?

The hot cloth cleansing method is just a badwaggon that cosmetics companies have jumped on. People have been washing their faces with cloths for years and you can use a face cloth with any cleanser. Liz Earle is full of irritating ingredients like lavender and other things, no doubt the Botanics one is similar.

Why don't you just use a cleanser you have used before without problems and use the cloth with that one instead.?

Just looked up the ingredients for the liz earle one. Beeswax, cocobutter, eucalyptus- the waxes in this will not be cleansing and will clog pores and won't be washed away with water. The eucalyptus is irritating to skin, especially sensitive facial skin.

Hot cloth cleansing was too harsh to do every day, so I do it once a week and use micellar water and witch Hazel as a toner the rest of the time.

been using either Simple or Botanics for ages with no problems (when I did bother to cleanse Blush )
just the introduction of a hot cloth seems to have had a weird effect.
didn't hot cloth last night and skin didn't seem so oily this morning
