Are Cath Kidston Bags Naff Now?

I purchased my first today because I always liked most of them (esp oilcloth) but never got around to it.

Now they're everywhere but I still like them - are they too popular & recognisable now?

Who cares as long as you like it.

Well they've never been cool - always a little bit twee. But yes, who cares as long as you like it.

Good. I do like it .I just worry sometimes that since having DC I'm out of touch. I always feel behind everyone else. Not the biggest worry in the world obviously.

Slightly naff and available In most good garden centres....as long as you don't purchase the matching purse....make up bag and hand cream collection that's ok Wink

Enjoy your new bag! What colour/ pattern is it?

Haha, yes only1 I know this, I also like Joules... oops.

It's navy with flowers on it. I like the size, material & the cross body strap so I can hold the 2 DC's hands at the same time.

I do have a purse too but it's not matching, it's spotty.

They are a bit recognisable.

If you can afford it maybe get another bag you like the look of (I like zingy colour bags) so you can interchange.

My 17 year old with teal hair/emo/goth clothes and various piercings just bought herself a Cath Kidston bag.

They are naff IMO - though these things are very much a matter of personal tastes - and a very 'safe' choice. I've recently become a grandmother, so much older than you and I wouldn't buy one.

Also, as there are so many around now wonder if it will feel 'special' enough.

Having said all that, if it makes you feel good and gives you pleasure to look at, go for it.

What does it matter that they're recognisable??? That's the actual point of designer stuff, isn't it? Confused

You love it, it's practical, who cares?Grin

Recognisable is the whole point of designer gear because it sure as hell isn't the fantastic quality work a lot of designer gear.

Designer gear x2Hmm

Rather off-thread, sorry, but I don't personally like 'designer', or brand stuff that's instantly 'recognisable', whether it's a typical Boden 'fun' print, or those ghastly shiny Michael Kors tags, or even giant metal Mulberry trees. Don't want to be a walking ad. OK, I do have some Longchamp Pliages because I like them and they are really practical, but the branding on those is pretty subtle.

I like a bag that gives me pleasure and that other people, if they notice it, maybe think ' nice bag, I wonder where it's from'. Perhaps that makes me a bit precious!

I have two, and I love them - they are practical, hard wearing and pretty. But I am the polar opposite of cool and trendy, so my approval for anything is probably the kiss of death, style-wise. Sorry.

Catch kids ton is high street, not designer. Yes it is naff and mumsy but also practical and wipe clean so suspect will continue to be popular for a while.

i was going to get a Cath Kidson bag as I wanted a cross body oilcloth bag for holidays.

Instead I bought a nice red spotty Burtie messenger bag, half price from The Old Bag Company on one of their bargain days, as it was not as twee.

lightasthebreeze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did not know of this make/website - they're so nice.

Gutted now because I saw 2 other mums with the same one I ordered today and it didn't look particularly nice either! I'm sending it back & getting something else (from The Old Bag Co...)

I've just ordered a bag for my mum from Nica in the 50% off sale. Worth a look, similar type bags but I preferred the patterns.

My across body is a plain barbour oilskin....it's actually a man bag I think....

I think I'd look a bit odd with a Cath K print....
