why do some women have loads of items in their wardrobe never worn, my mum has loads

My mum does this. She just likes buying things.

Impulse buying.

I used to be terrible for this. I'd buy for the sake of it, because it was in the sale or something with no thought as to now/when/where I'd wear it and it would hang in my wardrobe unworn

I've got better at not impulse buying and considering purchases properly, making sure it goes with something already in my wardrobe and that it fits with my lifestyle. If not, I don't buy it

It's cut down a lot of the crap, my wardrobe is much better organised and everything is worn

I do this. In my case, I think it's psychological as I was raised by my grandparents and they were abusive and neglectful so I rarely had new clothes. Nowadays, I like to have a really stuffed full wardrobe and buy new clothes all the time but don't actually feel 'good enough' to wear most of it so it hangs there unworn and, in a lot of cases, with the tags still on. :(

This is probably a big generalisation but I do think our parents generation (baby boomers) have a lot more disposable cash. My mum buys loads of stuff she really doesn't need!

This used to be me. I would buy things I thought I needed or thought I should wear. But then never did. I'm now strict with myself. I buy something and hang it in the wardrobe with tags still on. If I haven't worn it within a couple of weeks I return it.

As someone said its often things bought in the sales that they think they will slim into OR she just cant resist a bargin.

I only have a small number of clothes that each go with everything else. Makes life simple.

Agree with not being able to resist a bargain, too. I haven't worn any of the things I bought in the recent Boden flash sale, but I know they'll come in useful at some point...

I used to find things with tags on in mine then, months later I would sell them on ebay for 1/4 of what I paid. I've stopped now. and apart from odd posh frock I don't have "best" clothes.

Mil does this. And wont throw anything out. 80's suits etc because it might come back into fashion, and I might have lost a stone by then.

But worse than this by far is that she buys cheap. Lots of cheap clothes, that are never worn.

Rolls her eyes at my designer/ higher priced clothes. But I bet we spend similar amounts in a year!

I think she enjoys the thrill of the purchase.

It's growing up poor in 50/.60s with nothing but hand me downs to wear - I do it cause i can - I then pass things onto to charity or my daughter and her friends.

my mum did this only with shoes! I know when we were small she couldn't afford nice things for herself, later in life she had cancer and her feet shrunk to a size 3, loads of beautiful shoes in boxes in her wardrobe, because of the small size she used to get bargains in the sale!
