Bare minerals foundation help

I've been wearing the loose BM foundation for a while (the Matte one) & I love it, bit it's a pain to take out with me, so I bought the solid compact Ready foundation. And it's a nightmare! I bought the proper slanty brush thing & apply it properly (stroking it on in long strokes rather than buffing like normal BM foundation) but it still just sort of sits there on my face, and then it kind of beads up into greasy looking lumps.
What am I doing wrong? I use the Garnier primer (the one in the pink tube, 5 second blur or something). Is it possible that they're not compatible? Should I just bite the bullet & buy a BM primer?
Any opinions would be very welcome.

Hi Germ

Sounds like you're having a bit of a nightmare! I used the BM primer with the compact foundation and it works better than it sounds like you're doing, but to be honest I went back to the loose powder the next time because it wasn't fantastic.

However, using the BM primer with the loose is fantastic. It may be worth investing (it's £17 on QVC atm QVC )

Hi Germgirl. I love the Matt Bare Minerals loose powder too. I know that Wayne Goss, the make up artist (also a massive bare minerals fan) absolutely slated the compact version on YouTube.

Oh I'm exactly the same, love the loose powder and so bought the compact and its terrible!! Really drying on my skin and makes my pores looks ginormous. I'm so so disappointed I've completely gone off them tbh.

Just to add I use the BM primer too so it won't be that (although it doesn't bunch up in balls like you describe but is still crap!)

Thanks ladies. I'll invest in a BM primer, my cheapy one is nearly empty anyway. Sounds like the solid compact just isn't that great then. Shame.

Lanacane anti chaff gel is far superior to the BM primer imo.

I never bought the compact as I read such bad reviews. I ended up buying the brush with the hollow tube you fill up with powder to carry in my bag.

I've been really disappointed in it too, usually use the orginal. Firstly the colour is too pale, so I put the ready bronzer over the top, I also bought the slanted brush and I've now started buffing instead of stroking and using less product and the bare minerals primer and Its much better, think the primer, helps I'm almost out so will have to use on of my other primers. Do you have any mineral vail to put over the top? Maybe worth a try? I've just checked my makeup and it still looks good, so I definitely recommend the primer.

I ordered the primer last night so I'll have another go when that comes. I do have some Mineral Veil & I have to use that over the top because the foundation is also weirdly shiny! But I like the colour, it is paler than the loose stuff but that's good for me as I'm so pale I'm practically see through.
If the primer doesn't help I'll have a look at that fill-able brush.

I use the compact and slanty brush and buff as you do with the loose powder. I do have to buff more than usual but looks fine on me. I use BM primer and mineral veil as well.

Are you buffing long enough?
You need to sing "Happy Birthday to You" -all of it - twice and buff for that length of time.

70, do you buff with the solid one though? I buff for ages with the loose one but you're meant to 'stroke' the solid one on rather than buff?

I had to cut my losses on BM eventually. Bought into it all then added their kabuki brush collection and primer plus mineral veil before and after and still looked bloody waxy. Only the loose matte looked remotely ok.

Yeah I wonder if I'll end up like that. Il try the primer & if that doesn't do anything I'll stick to the Matt loose, which I love but is messy & chunky to carry around.
