Naked, Naked 2 or something else

I have some Christmas money left and fancy treating myself to a nice neutral eyeshadow palette. Budget of about £40. Ever since I had the kids I've bought budget stuff like MUA and it's fine, but I'd really like something nice for once.

I've had half an eye on the Naked palettes but would need to buy online as I'm not near a stockist. I've got dark hair and pale olive skin. Mostly want easy day combinations of colours as I'm a SAHM and already have plenty of 'going out smoky' type eyeshadows that never get used.

Does anyone have any recommendations please?

I got naked2 for Xmas and have been using it during the day. I'm on mat leave and trying to make a bit more of an effort. I'm far from an expert in the make up department and keep intending to look at some YouTube tutorials. There are plenty of nice but not too dramatic colours to choose from for daywear.

I saw no. 3 Weighty and it looks nice, but it seems more pinky and that's not really my colouring. I definitely suit beiges or apricot undertones more than pinks.

Thanks for the feedback on no. 2 WiseOldElf

Naked 2 is supposed to be for cooler skin tones, original Naked for warmer tones and 3 is pinks/rose shades which theoretically suit either - from what I have gathered, but have to confess that I now own all 3, recently treated myself to Naked3 and find that the shades pretty much all suit, despite my initial thoughts that the roses/pinks in Naked 3 wouldn't be ok on me with my colouring, they do work, it is just a question of mixing combinations of colours in the right way.

Would say that all 3 palettes are suitable for a 'daytime' or 'natural' look, but there are other shades in there that can be used to add drama or depth for a different look. Urban Decay also do some sets with a mixture of products in, like 'Vice' so I suppose it depends on whether you are looking for a specific product - like the eyeshadow palette or to have a selection to do eyes, lips, cheeks.

Wouldn't buy any product without seeing it or testing it first though, OP, as if you read any of the other beauty threads about products, what suits one person doesn't necessarily work for another.

Good luck and hope you find something you like - look forward to your update/recommendations.

I've got Naked Basics. It's just right for me but I'm quite minimalist.
My very pale DD1 has Naked 2 which she loves and uses too much a lot.

I have the original naked- some shades are a bit too glittery for me.

I am admiring the new Clinique palette - think it's called neutrals.

I bought myself naked 2 with some Xmas money. I wear it everyday and so I must like it - but I don't love it yet. I got number 2 as I generally wear cooler colours. However, I too, keep meaning to watch some tutorials as I keep using the same shades and some others are ones I would never choose so don't know what to do with them. Like the box though! :-)

Thanks everyone. Bit put off now as I'm not keen on glittery (as opposed to a bit of shimmer) and a couple of people seem to have found that an issue. I'm liking the look of the Clinque one though. I could get to a big Boots to check that out. I like the idea that all the colours are in the normal range too (thanks for that blog link Alex) as it would be nice to know I could buy just the ones that run out fastest and still create the same looks.

Naked basics has 5 matt shades and 1 shimmer - no glitter at all, so might be up your street.

The clinique one would be my recommendation. I've got three of the palettes I featured and that is the one I use the most. It's also the most convenient size for popping into your make up bag and taking out with you. Whatever you decide on I hope you enjoy using it. xx

I love Naked 3 Smile

I also love Too Faced palettes and World Famous Neutrals by Benefit, I have the Glamorous one and like the creaseless creams.

Having read Alex's blog I now really, really want the Chanel palette! Unfortunately I'm on a special 'don't buy stuff you don't need' diet. I'll have to wait until I deserve a treat Wink

I love Too Faced and TheBalm palettes, but my very favourite is Smashbox Fade In. It has cream, light brown, mid brown and dark brown mattes (i.e. similar to Urban Decay Naked Basics) plus a shimmery fawn, shimmery sludgy olive green (gorgeous) and a shimmery black. The dark brown and black work really well as liners with a damp brush, and all of the shadows are well pigmented and blend together really well.

Alex, I really like your blog and want all of the palettes!

PS I'd really love to get the NARS palette, but already have most of the shadows individually and love them all, so that might be a good option to consider.

I've also got the Stila In The Light palette and it is lovely as well.

I have Smashbox Fade In and LOVE IT. Unfortunately, it was a limited edition and pretty much sold out everywhere so I didn't include it.
I've also got the NARS one which is great as well. I think I might have a problem when it comes to eyeshadow palettes!
I justified to myself that the NARS one was a good deal as it works out that each shade costs about £3.30.
