This is a picture of me and my hair!

Excuse the crap picture of my miserable face, I loath having my photo taken but needs must! There is one of my hair up for face shape and one down.

I need to do something with my mop, I have booked a hairdresser but if I don't ask you lot first I'll go and get an inverted bob then grow it straight out because I don't like it much.

Things to consider;

The expanse of forehead that I have
I don't have oodles of time to 'fix' it every morning
It's thick, way thicker than it looks, thick enough to make hairdressers charge me extra Hmm

So, what do you suggest I go for? Currently it gets slung up in a messy bun with a few strands down my face to hide mount forehead but that's getting old now.

Get a fringe and some layers, to get some volume in the roots.

What kind of fringe do you suggest? I usually go for a sweeping one and long layers in the front of an inverted bob but always come out of the salon feeling distinctly underwhelmed by the result.

What happens when you have a fringe cut in, or have you never had one?

Bugger! should have refreshed first.

What about keeping most of the length but getting a side parting, long layers and a sweeping fringe?

anchovies · 10/02/2014 12:59

Ha! I just suggested exactly what you dont want!!

I usually have a side parting but it just won't stay in, the hairdresser taught me how to 'train' it to fall naturally in one but it has never worked, it just so tick and heavy it sits in this horrible straight line in the centre.

It's not been washed for a couple of days in the pics btw, when it's freshly washed it has a ton more volume and goes rather huge.

I've even tried the Mumsnet haircut and it still looks the same.

Fringe, layers and a babyliss big hair my hair is very like yours but I have a fringe like below eyebrow length across my forehead.

I think your hair is a lovely colour OP and it looks like it straightens really easily.

I think you'd really suit a side-swept fringe (unlike my hair where it always ends up looking like the Macdonald's M!)

Does anything on here appeal?

I usually have something similar to this but slightly less choppy.

You have a lovely shaped face and I think a fringe would really suit you. Not a side swept fringe nor a blunt straight across one but one that is graduated at the edges. Maybe something like this?

I don't mind this actually.

I have had my hair straightened a few times before but I get someone else to do it and it takes an age.

What is a Babyliss Big Hair and how do I use one?

I think you look a bit like Christina Ricci. How about anything HERE
or either of these

It's a styling tool. It blows hot air and spins round. It's transformed my hair.

Try www.marieclaire.com/hair-beauty/trends/virtual-hairstyle-makeovers - I don't know if it's free as you go further into it, but you can upload that photo of yourself to see what suits you.

I'll have a go at that later Tumb Smile

I like the sort of thing you're all suggesting. I might just have to get used to having long hair and enjoying it I think, I
I get annoyed with it and stick it up out my face usually but I'd really like,to,stop doing that.

I had rosacea for years to the point I couldn't leave the house because my nose/cheeks were raw and bleeding with it, it's not perfect now but still 100x better, and that combined with finally feeling like I'm coming out a years long battle with PND, I'd like to make some changes and learn to like who I am and how I look. My hair looks similar to yours, don't give up on the training the hair to one side! You REALLY have to perserve and I do think a side parting would look better on you. It took months to train mine to naturally fall on the side but I basically ALWAYS blew dry it straight down from the side if you see what I mean, i never let it dry naturally as that's just when it decided no the parting was in the middle! It is a bit tiresome as sometimes I just prefer letting it dry naturally but there you go. I also use to get a clip and clip the side fringe overnight so the parting stayed to the side. If you wake up with a "kink" where the clip was just wet it and blow dry it straight again. Silkerkin hairspray to keep it to the side in the day to. It will fall eventually it's just a pain in the bum getting it to stay!

I love the fringe (and the rest of it on her) but it looks high maintenance - it could easily end up looking messy I think.

Oh! I really like Lilly Allen's fringe, I a, clueless about hair though so I don't know what would be time consuming and what wouldn't.

I don't have time for washing and blow drying every morning or night but I do have time to brush and apply some sort of product if that's what it took to have fab hair. Smile

When I had a fringe, I would just blow dry it over a big round brush even when it was dry, takes no more than 2 mins.

Slightly off topic, but how did you get rid of the rosacea?

You have the thickness, that is a bonus, you need to use your feature to there best advantage and make use of the fact you have thick hair

here

I think you would like nice with a style like this, although not blonde, just the style
I Think a touch of red in your hair would look nice and add interest

Perhaps get your eyebrows shaped and thinned a bit and your good to go

Well done on your battle with pnd
Hope you get a hairstyle that makes you feel really good about yourself :)

I tamed the rosacea with a very strong course of Clarithromycin from the GP for 2 months then a lower strength for another 2 months. It's so much better although I haven't dared try make up yet.

I am due to sort my eyebrows out (I'm a qualified beauty therapist Blush)

Thanks for everyone's help, it's really encouraging me to go to the hairdresser with a picture in a hand and tell them what I would like, rather than sitting there meekly and letting them do what they feel like!

I think the Alexa Chung hair is divine and a side parting would suit you best for your hair.

You would also suit a squArer and narrower pair of specs, the ones you are wearing are wider than the widest part of your face which looks a little unbalanced to me.

You have gorgeous thick hair, you lucky thing!

Can you link to a picture of specs that would suit? I always struggle to find ones that 'work' sadly I'm too blind for contacts and I'm still umming and ahhing about laser eye surgery. Smile
