ShyGirlie · 27/12/2013 22:33

Reading the bubble bath thread, i quite fancy a bath! Havent had one since childhood so not too sure of the routine!! Blush Blush

  • i have very long hair... do i wash it in the bath, or how do i keep it dry?

  • i dont think id feel clean after sitting in dirty water... do u shower before bath, after bath, or just bath and nothing else?!?

  • when having a "relaxing" bath, what do u actually do?! Read? (how do u keep book dry?) Snooze?

  • how do u keep the water warm til the end, but not scalding when i get in?

  • any must-have lovely products?

Sorry, u prob think im daft but please dont flame me! i remember struggling with all these issues, so have ended up with a lifetime of showering as much less hassle!

Oh dear....lol Smile

I don't think anybody would shower after a bath. What is the point?Unless you are dirty your bath water will not be dirty.Remember years ago when hardly anyone had a shower? Were we all dirty and disgusting then?Nope.

If the water starts getting cool, just top it up with more hot water.Unless you are bathing in a giant flask there is no way to keep the water warm.

Pin your hair up on your head so it doesn't go in the water.

I just lay back and relax with a mask on my face.

Go buy some Lush bubble bars/ballistics/bath melts

I always listen to the radio (talk) or a podcast while I'm in the bath...I just find lying in hot water so soothing and pleasurable

No need to shower and bath unless you have been lost in the wilderness for two weeks and are filthy. Grin

I have long hair and it's a good idea to wash it separately and keep it out of the bath water altogether, although you can lie back with it in the water as long as you wash it afterwards in fresh water.

I just have lots of bubbles and daydream while I'm in the bath. If I'm feeling extravagant I might have some sort of face/hair mask going on with some candles. I have also taken a book with me and played relaxing music in the past.

I used to hate baths but have had 2 this week to help ease late pregnancy discomfort and surprised myself. My tips are:

I use a hand towel to lie back on as the bath surface is too cold above the water line.

Candles are a lovely touch

Bring a drink of something nice - wine, tea etc.

Prewarm a cosy towel for afterwards.

Tie hair up really high so it doesn't get wet ( and then feel cold on your back when you get out.)

I put on music or podcasts and sometimes DP comes in to chat / help me out of bath.

Have moisturiser for after the bath, and if you can get your DP to moisturise you with it, even better.

I swear I feel lighter after a bath :) looking for nice bubble baths next time I'm shopping!

I don't get it when people talk about sitting in "dirty water". How dirty are you? Unless you're caked in grime, the water will be fine, seriously!

I get in - make sure it is not too hot, as it's rubbish sitting there sweltering, just hot enough. Soak for a bit. I take a book, but choose an old one that I don't mind getting a bit damp (wet fingers). I have a glass of cold water and a few squares of chocolate on the side. After a bit of soaking and reading I shampoo my hair and leave the shampoo on. Then I wash all over and use a scrubby glove to exfoliate. Then I will pull the plug, stand up, rinse hair under the shower, bit of conditioner, rinse again.

The hair bit is only because my hair frizzes just from the steam, so just pinning it up won't work - it needs to be washed. It's a total pain and if I could take a bath without washing it I'd be delighted, but I can't - it just looks shocking after a bath if I don't wash it.

In my house, it goes something like this:

Run bath and select bubble bath
Light candles
Get in and read magazine or kindle
Shut eyes and relax
DS needs to come in for a wee/poo
Get rid if him
Back to relaxing
DH comes in and asks why I am lying in the dark, switches the light on, asks some random questions that could have waited, farts and leaves the room
Get out of bath

Don't wash your hair in the bath. It doesn't get conditioner out unless you get the downward pressure from the shower. If you have a mixer tap shower over the bath, you could try washing hair with shampoo first using the shower then putting conditioner on while the bath is running, having your nice bath with conditionered hair clipped up on top and the rinsing with the shower as you let the bath go. Otherwise you end up sitting with a lot of hair stuck all over you if you have long hair.

That is a bit of a faff though. It's better to have a bath when you don't need to wash your hair!

Oh, and don't take your kindle into the bath if you are a bit sleepy.

I usually shower in the morning and wash hair. Then if I want a bath in the eve I don't wash hair, just put up high out the way.
We have a shower over bath and I do usually shower off after I finish bath as shave legs in bath/ plus bubbles and I don't want a film of it stuck to me! Plus I often bath with my children who are at the small age of erring sand everywhere, rolling in mud and jumping in puddles daily

I like ridiculously hot baths, so fill it halfway with a temperature that's bearable, then get in and leave the hot tap trickling until it's time to get out
-it keeps bubbles being produced too!

Hair tied up high on head

Depending on what kind of mood I'm in- either candles and an easy to read book; or I prop the iPad on the shelf in front and watch something lighthearted
Regarding rhe book, hold it! Or balance it on the edge of the bath. Some people have bath racks you could lean it on?

I don't tend to spend more than 20 mins in there, the constant trickle of hot water means it's scaldingly got when I get out (don't judge it's awesome!) but I do have a bath almost every night.

Different products for different moods- for an everyday notm Thursday weekday bath: I just throw in whatever bubble bath was on offer at the supermarket, radox etc. But I've decanted them all into fancy glass jars to make them look a bit more sumptuous
On a "posh" bath night I have varied milks, oils and salts (sorry, from abroad, but you can find lovely ones here in uk too)

  • try the sanctuary range in boots

Enjoy! Smile

For a fab skin softening bath, stick a cupful or full bag of milk powder in the water and a few drops of lavender oil. Your skin feels gorgeous afterwards for ages, and I think the lactic acid exfoliates too - it certainly feels like it does.

I wash a lot in the bath - I scrub all over with a friction mitt and a moisturising body gel - so definitely feel the need to rinse thoroughly with a shower afterwards.

I love baths.
Hardly ever have showers.
I actually feel cleaner after a bath than I do a shower.

I also wash and condition my hair in the bath with no problem.

I like being fully submerged, so no chance of keeping hair dry anyway.

I read. Have a glass of wine.
Sometimes some popcorn or scrambled eggs.

(Great to eat messy food in the bath as you don't have to clear up after!)

I like my unguents so a shower is essential after a bath Smile

ooooh, I love a long soak in the bath.

I prefer bath salts to bubbles, but water has to be HOT

Glass of wine for an evening bath, cup of tea for a morning one.

Audio book from my phone safely wrapped in a waterproof bag and away from the bath.

I wash my hair in the bath, I give it a quick rinse with the shower or a few cups of water when I am done.

No disturbances from anyone else, they can use the downstairs loo.

I like a shower for cleansing/scrubbing/exfoliating etc.

A bath is more for relaxing. I like the water very hot and full of some delicious smelling unguent, a glass of wine, some music.

Thanks to this thread I've just had a long, hot bath by candlelight for the first time in ages. It was amazing, I read, and feel totally chilled. Thanks OP!
