Cabin luggage wardrobe for the canaries

I am so excited as my newly employed daughter is treating herself and me to a holiday in Lanzarote for a week. We fly out Boxing Day and we are both very happy to spend time together in the sunshine. We are flying out with a cabin case only 55 x 40 x 20. It's tiny! I need some help on what would be good to take. I am short and a size 18, I am not sure what to wear there, as it will be warm but not hot. Maybe you could give me some ideas please as absolutely everything has to fit in that case!!

Oh Yikes
Holiday sounds fab, but I struggle for a week with 20 kilos hold baggage & hand luggage too.
I guess you could wear layers, and all your accessories on the plane.
Loose trousers, t shirt with a long sleeved loose top over it. A neutral coloured cardigan/ jacket that will go with everything.
Flat pumps that will go with everything.
( I guess you could wear all your knickers over each other under your trousers Grin)
Get ALL your toiletries when you get there.
Good luck.

If you scroll down to the section called 'Bundle Wrapping here it gives a great packing method that saves a huge amount of room and keeps your items crease-free. It's particularly good for hand luggage.

It isn't that warm in Lanzarote at that time of year, so if you travel light wear plenty of layers for the flight because you will need them on holiday, especially in the evening. Unless there is an indoor pool you won't get much wear out of a swimsuit. We shivered in Lanzarote in February.

chickydoo What on earth do you take that weighs so much? DD and I went to Italy in the summer for a week. We took plenty of clothes, but both of our cases weighed in at well under 15 kilos each. I might add that the cases we have are very light to start with.

Thanks for the replies! Thank you smelly for the list, I will use that for my shopping list! I will wear layers on the plane, but not all my knickers! I'm hoping it will be warm and know that we will probably not be swimming, but certainly hope to sit round the pool in a swimsuit? Non?? Ok, I will think of it like spring weather and pack accordingly. My lovely daughter thinks it will be hot and has ordered very summery clothes and a bikini!! My underwear alone could fill that size case, size 36H bras take up a lot of room, size 16 knickers do too.... Off to have a re-think on what's needed in that case, I'm so used to packing and having several of everything!!

Take a small bottle of travel wash you can rinse out a few bits and peg out on balcony. Buy all toiletries there and where as many clothes, layers as you can.

Always go to the Canaries in November and weather can be variable. This year I took my cardigans for the evening and didn't really wear them, but last year wore my quilted jacket one night as it was chilly. In the day was about 26C in November.

DH and I shared a 20kg case as we wanted to fit our beach towels and sun cream etc in and didn't want the bother of the liquids in the small plastic bag. Definitely take travel wash in the small plastic bag then you don't need to fill your case with underwear and can wash tops.

Been a few times this time of year, long sleeves essential for evenings.Depending on your style something like a Breton top with a cardigan over the top and then a denim jacket on top worn on the plane over will give you 3 long sleeved layers without needing to use case space.

Ok, I'm going to take on board (literally) haha, all the replies. Wasn't thinking that I would be wearing warm clothes there as I have been to Tenerife in December , all be it 20 years ago and I don't remember it not being warm, I do remember that the sun went down early, but that's about it. I think I will wear what superhero suggests for the journey and also take a pashmina. This is what I am thinking so far;
3 knickers
1 ugly nude bra
1 or 2 tankini's
2 maxi dresses (keeps legs a bit warmer in evening) with denim jacket
1 pair white linen trousers
A few new vest tops
Kaftan for round pool, but a nice one that can be worn one evenin for going out
1 denim skirt
2 nice tops
Wedges
Flip flops
Does that sound ok?

Oh and maybe some cropped leggings to go under denim skirt if cold?

Buy your toiletries for the week when you are airside last security.

Sounds good. The denim skirt sounds like it would be quite thick though so take up space. I would add a pair of leggings/ tights that you can wear under maxi dresses if colder and skip the denim skirt

It's always cold on planes IMO.

Just take 1 swimsuit/ tankini. Even in the Middle East I take more and always end up just wearing favourite one!

Oh and would leave wedges. Just take flip flops, and whatever shoes your travelling in. Something you can wear with socks in uk and without abroad if warm ie moccasins/ ballet pumps or similar

Sounds good apart from if it was me and I was limited on space I probably wouldn't take white linen trousers, maybe a darker colour instead, as white is quite hard to keep clean, I know I would be worried about having stuff like bolognese if I was wearing white and also having to watch where I sat down in case they got stained or dirty.

Oooh I love Lanzarote and we are going in Feb too! Pack/wear some sturdy shoes as the landscape is very rocky and if you go to see any of the fabulous sights of the island you will be pleased to have them.
You will certainly get some swimming in if your pool is heated. The sea is cool but it doesn't stop my family in Feb!
I've never needed more than a fleece in the evening at that time of year.

Thanks, I'm ditching a tankini as I don't think I really need two. Will swap the white linen trousers for black. Will see how I go with the wedges as your right they take up a lot of room. Think I may take ballet pumps instead of canvas style vans as they will go with more. Have decided to stick to black, red and white so that everything will match each other.
