I've just bought the Sallywood in black from Jack Murphy. It's quite fitted and looks really smart.

fine if it is Barbour or Belstaff.....
just don't ever smoke when wearing one, they reek.

Can't stretch to pricey ones unfortunately.

My dad has offered to buy me one as an early Christmas present and he has never bought me a Christmas (or birthday!) present before. So it's tempting.

BUT he's limited it to either one of the Tesco ones (belted one isn't bad but I prefer the colour of the purple one, that's not bad-if tightened at the waist-either)
www.clothingattesco.com/page/search/?termtextkeywordsearch=wax Which he'd probably get with clipboard vouchers!

Or,one from his catalogue as he'll get £20 off and pay weekly (he's not skint, just likes spending £50 a week on lottery and scratchcards!)

Opinions?31 and hourglass

I have the purple one and it's fantastic quality for the price. It's also very warm. The only problem I have with is it is the length. I'm tall and it skims my bum!

I've got the purple tesco one and I think it makes me look really slim due to being able to pull it in a bit at the waist.

LordPalmerston · 02/11/2013 19:35

oh god just get the tesco one

LordPalmerston · 02/11/2013 19:36

I got a tesco one last year and get NO END of nice comments about it

then this year got another one for sport watching, not as nice really but more practical - warmer and with a hood

I have the non-belted Tesco one in green, and it's lovely. Very practical, comfy, and looks great with skinny jeans and DMs.

Also - I tried the oxblood colour and it looked dreadful on me (pale and cool toned olive skin, dark brown hair, browny-greeny eyes), so you may want to try it on before buying if your colouring is similar!

Not for me.
I wore one in my horse-riding days to stay dry.
And yes, I looked gorgeous in my long boots, jodhpurs and carrying a whip, but I smelled Grin

That just reminded me to make sure I don't get one that looks horsey with knee boots!

Seriously? I though these things were long gone.
We used to wear them for stomping around shooting grounds. They are heavy, ugly and they stink.
You also have to keep re-waxing them, iirc.
Modern fabrics must be an improvement, surely???

TripTrap - don't worry, AFAIK parrots have a very weak sense of smell (and taste). Mine does, anyway Grin.

They can be mighty pongy in my experience.

Report
NomDeOrdinateur · 02/11/2013 21:35

Unless it's a species that sheds a lot of dander (like cockatiels and cockatoos), the only reason for a pongy parrot is a poorly maintained cage IME. Mine gets her sandpaper changed every 3-4 days, and she's not whiffy Smile.

I meant waxed jackets, not parrots!

Oops! May I blame the mulled wine I've been drinking all evening? Wink

Seriously, I had no idea waxed jackets have a reputation for being smelly - mine have all been fine, but admittedly none are heavily waxed...

Report
suebfg · 02/11/2013 22:31

The fashion waxed jackets don't tend to be smelly like Barbour etc as they tend to be 'faux' waxed. They aren't like the Barbour jackets in that respect.

I love the smell of barb ours. Takes me back to when I was little
