Crows feet starting - anything I can do?

I'm 33. Have noticed in the last few weeks that I'm looking more lined around my eyes when I smile/laugh. The skin springs back easily now although I can see some very fine lines around my eyes which are not shifting

Anything I can do to get ahead of this before the lines become wrinkles? My skin is in really good nick since stopping smoking and cutting back on sugar and booze this summer. I drink about 2 litres of water a day and get 7-8 hours of sleep a night. I walk 1-2 miles most days, run for 30 minutes 3 times a week and do some Pilates-type floor work a couple of times a week, so pretty ok with exercise too.

Any other lifestyle or product suggestions? Thanks Smile

I think it helps if you can avoid squinting in the sun..so big shades and a hat!

Enjoy them, they're a sign that you are cheerful and have had happy times, when you get to be an old lady you'll be one with a smiley face not a grumpy one.

Everyone gets wrinkles in the end ;) Short of botox you can't really stop it happening. You are doing everything you need to be healthy so your skin will be the best it can be. And what OddBoots says :)

What lovely sensible advice - thanks everyone! You're right, I need to just get on with it and accept them. It's ironic really because I'm a bit of a miserable bugger so to end up with 'laughter lines' is quite amusing!

I'm quite glad that you didn't all come on and recommend some fabulous new eye cream that costs 80 quid for a fairy's thimbleful Grin

Eye cream. I started using Clinique All About Eyes when I first noticed the start of crows feet about 5 years ago, when I was around your age, and they haven't got any worse. It's not that expensive, about £23 a pot which lasts about 4/5 months. And sunglasses, whenever it is bright enough to make you squint.

I bought this recently and am quite cynical of supposedly 'miracle' products, especially by big commercial companies by l'oreal but I can see a difference from using this serum even after a very short time.

I am in quite good nick but have started to get fine lines/crows feet and I also have a sleep line about an inch long going across one side of my face over the crow lines and using this serum has considerably reduced it.

Reviews online seem pretty good as well.

but does it really work??
and if so how Confused
I dunno, I'm very skeptical about face creams, I dont see how they can do anything much more than just keep your skin supple by moisturising it.

Lines are creases caused by facial movements, as you get older the creases get deeper, as the muscle involved in your habitual facial expressions get stronger.

Botox reduces the activity of the muscles and lets the creases drop out

I would start using oil at night. Avocado oil is my favourite.

Decleor do a wonderful serum called Angelique oil, which is basically avocado oil with a few essential oil added. Weleda do ampoules of rose oil which are also good.

Alternatively make sure your night cream is good and rich & specialist lightweight eye cream.

I don't agree you can't avoid lines, I'm 43 & I don't have any.

My tips - never put your face in the sun, don't use water or alcohol on your face (I use rosewater instead), always keep it hydrated, drink a lot of water, avoid alcohol & caffeine.

Botox is the only thing to prevent them. And big sunglasses.

But I totally agree with OddBoots. I really dislike my crow's feet (haven't yet reached OddBoots's Zen state of enjoying them, working on that!) but hey ho, that's life, and they are evidence of my lived life. I won't be botoxing them.

no it's true you really cant avoid lines, but some get more and some get them earlier
(I didnt have any at 43 either Wink )

Lazysuzanne's advice is sound: wearing sunglasses will help.

I wear my sunglasses a lot because I wear contact lenses and my eyes seem to be quite sensitive to the sun: I am in my mid-forties and I don't have any crow's feet.

I often wear sunglasses on grey days (which I appreciate may make me seem odd when I walk around Manchester). I am always amazed how few people wear them when it is sunny though.

thing is, once you start wearing sunglasses more your eyes become more light sensitive, which leads to feeling the need to wear them more often..well thats my experience anyway!

I agree, Lazysusanne. Now, I get really twitchy if I realise I have set off from home and left my sunglasses at home, as I often feel that I need to wear them.

Still, no crow's feet though! Wink

A friend reckoned her crows feet were down to too much sun and too many orgasms....she looked in the mirror to try and work out what was causing her lines, and realised that it was her sex face that did it.

I've got lines on one side but not the other, not sure how that works.

Botox is the only way. Creams and serums works on the surface of the skin so it might look smoother. But it won't get rid of the wrinkles deep down. Maybe save the money buying those miracle cream so you can have botox in a few years Grin

Botox will get rid of crows feet, but I think it's pointless unless you have it regularly.

Use a retinoid. Retinoic acid or tretinoin is the only thing proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It works by increasing cell turnover, quite literally making the skin act, and therefore look, younger. Long term use produces significant results.
