I have no idea what suits me, I have completely lost my way since having dd2 18 months ago.
I have very few clothes that fit right now and very little money to but more
I have to spend what I have wisely on a few nice things to get me through the winter. I have no idea where to start. Please can anyone help?

I work part time but am home every afternoon with dc so want to be practical but look nice. My confidence is at an all time low and I just don't have much time to doend shopping.

Thanks

Me - but 5'2 and 10-12.

For casual I pretty much live in either skinnies or a denim or jersey tube skirt, or narrow jersey maxis. Skinnies from either Topshop or M&S mostly and tube skirts from Topshop (or Whistles if you're feeling richer).

Sorry I don't know what to wear on top with denim skirt?
Also do you wear oversized jumpers with skinnies? I worry they will make me look a bit shapeless.

Thanks

I only wear over-sized jumpers if a) I'm putting a fitted biker on top, or b) I'm only schlepping around to the park etc. Otherwise I tend to layer fairly fitted tops with them.
With a denim or tube skirt I tend to wear jumpers/tops which are supposed to be fitted but bought one size up, so that they are loose-ish but not huge. This sort of thing fancy this too

This is me, although at the moment I am more like 12-14 (with plans to tackle that).

I mostly wear skinny jeans with a jersey top or jumper. Scarf or drapey cardi or jacket to try to detract from the mum-tum. I have small norks and slightly divided stomach muscles, so look pregnant with the slightest weight gain.

Which is why I must lose weight (again). Blush

I need to get some shorter skirts, agree they are more flattering with tights/boots in winter for us short-arses than longer skirts.

Thanks for the ideas. Boobage is 32DD so with that and the mumtum I fear anything too tight, but then if I go too loose I look preggers!
So boyfriend cardigans suit our shape?
Also is there a boot style that works with both skirts and skinnies as I can only really afford one pair?

I'm an hourglass, with giant boobage (34J) and boyfriend cardigans look dreadful! They completely hide your shape which can then make you look bigger.

Jemster · 22/09/2013 19:41

Ok thanks triptrap will avoid those then!

I like this sort of boots with both skinnies and skirts. If the skirt is short, I'll wear flat ankle boots but if it's more pencil skirt-ish, I need the bit of heel to avoid looking like Granny Wetherwax.

Am 5 ft 3 and size 10/ 12 hourglass.
I wear straight or slim leg jeans, cigarette trousers, dresses.
I quite like slouchy style tops with the trousers but layered over slim fitting top, usually with some showing around the hemline if that makes sense.I like the dolman sleeve type tops that are around at the moment.
I used to be mad on cardigans and still have loads but am buying more jumpers this season as find they give neater shape overall.
I like jersey knee length dresses with boots, not exactly fashion forward I know but suits me and a nice easy outfit.
I have loads of scarves, many bought cheaply off ebay or in Primark.
Ditto necklaces.

Really like those boots Remus.

Georgina what boots do you wear with the skinnies and what footwear with the cigarette trousers?
I have always worn bootcut jeans and bootleg work trousers but now they seem to swamp me. It always seems that hourglass figures are told bootleg is best shape for them so it's reassurring to hear that skinnies and slim leg can work too.

I'm still not sure how to layer the top half with the skinnies. If anyone could show me with a link that would be great.

I am a similar shape but with bigger norks.

I wear skinnies / slim fitting jeans (Levi Demi Curve) with knee high boots. Something like this but with a higher heel.

I used to wear boot cut but not a fan anymore. Wear loose fitting tops with cardies etc. Also a lot of jersey v necked dresses for work.

Yup, necklaces and scarves are good....to draw the eye away from the mum-tum! Grin

I own a LOT of scarves and necklaces...

Personally, as you're petite OP, I'd avoid ankle boots, they cut up your legs & make them look shorter; if you have to - go for slim-fitting ones in the same colour as your tights/trousers. I'd go instead for slim-fitting knee boots & shoe boots that accentuate your ankles.

I'd wear skinnies, bootlegs with slight heels to lengthen your legs, & stretchy pencil skirts, both with fitted cardigans, blouses or jackets on top to give you shape. There are lots of peplum cardigans around at the mo & they are great for a streamlined shape while hiding your tummy.

Empire line jumper dresses can hide a multitude of sins & wrap dresses are good for hourglass figures.

Jemster, footwear wise I wear courts or ballet pumps or slipper shaoes with cigarette trousers, need to try s few other options for depths of winter though.
I wear knee high boots with dresses usually, may not be height of fashion but feel bit odd in ankle boots tbh.
I wear slim jeans with ankle boots, got some wedge grey limited collection Marks ones last year and some Marant alikes in tan that ate great from New Look.
I prefer slim keg to actual skinnies tbh

I'm a similar size/shape to you, and I think the key is to emphasise the waist but then skim out over the tummy.

I like skinny jeans with jumpers, but on me I find the most flattering outfits are fit and flare dresses. I wear them with a blazer or leather jacket and boots usually.

The dresses can be simple like this or more of a tea dress.

I'm very similar shape currently. I'm loving the fact we are going back into jumper dress season. Anything too baggy makes you look 3 sizes bigger, so be brave and wear figure hugging with long line cardis to hide any wobbly sides. I've just invested in a good pair of boots, but check out eBay and next stretchy boots. Cheap ideas are black leggings, or pencil skirt with boots. Make sure you've got a good shapely coat that follows your frame. That will be a larger investment though.

I haven't even attempted boyfriend jeans. I know they'll look ridiculous on my shape. I'm struggling with skinnies as they make my legs look like tree trunks. Only ones that have worked on me so far is higher waisted next ones.

I am this shape but more of a 8-10 but despite the slimness I find it hard to find items that are flattering - it feels like a science experiment going shopping. I have longer legs and a shorter body, but still go for show boots or brogues to prevent cutting my legs in half. I generally wear skinnies or straight leg jeans/trousers and fitted tops which are not too long in the body - I often find people moaning about tops not being long enough, but I can't find any that are short enough! I love the oversized slouchy look, but I do think it works better if you're taller. Long skirts are really unflattering on me (I have wide hips and they seem to really accentuate them), but short skirts work well.

If wearing a loose-ish top with skinnies stick a biker over to nip it all in I wear this sort of thing a lot.

Or if going for more fitted like this I usually layer a longer vest under the fitted top to disguise tummy/bum a bit!

Oh and my legs are v long compared to the rest of me, so I think I get away with ankle boots pretty well. A lot of knee high boots are too high for me.

I'm 5"5, size 12 hourglass with mummy tummy.

I tend to wear - high waisted, straight leg jeans, usually with a stretchy vest and a boyfriend cardi like this I actually find them quite flattering Confused

Or, denim skirt or denim shorts (quite short but not indecent!) with thick tights. If I'm wearing the skirt I wear my knee high boots, the shorts I tend to wear ballet flats. On the top it would be a fitted 3/4 sleeve top, maybe layered with stretchy vest.

Or, skater skirt with tights, boots, and vest with basic non descript cardi over it. I put a waist belt over the top (over the cardi) to define my waist but keep warmish!

I tend to wear cardis rather than numbers because I find they tend to make me look boxy and two sizes bigger! Although I have just bought a cheap sewing machine, and managed to alter a couple of cheap Primark t shirts so they define my waist better, so might have a go with a jumper!,
