Sorry, I don't like BB Cream

I tried the Botanics Radiant Youth BB cream yesterday - and I looked dreadful Confused. It didn't really work as a moisturiser, and gave an unpleasant chalky appearance to my skin. Also the Medium was far too light for my fair skin.

In all fairness, I should point out that I am quite a bit older than the average Mumsnetter.

Should I chuck it out, or am I doing something wrong? I could give it another go over a moisturiser, I suppose - but that's missing the point!

Oh dear, I've committed an act of heresy, haven't I Blush
That's why you're not speaking to me, isn't it Wink

I don't dislike it & do use it...but I think it's a proper fad & very over hyped. I like it because it's not as dry as foundation but that's as far as it goes! Smile

Honestly, I think BB creams are the most difficult things to buy in the world. I have tried so many different types, from bargain Boots ones to £50 ones, and I finally found one, out of about 30, that I really liked. Have had 4 friends try the one I swear by, and they all hate it!

If you're still looking, go into Debenhams or something and pay a visit to every makeup counter. Pain in the ass, but well worth it in the end!

Sounds like you have the wrong BB cream. Take it back and see if they'll change it, loads of people are raving about the Soap and Glory one.

Though I see what you mean about the concept - to be honest, if you have dry skin or aren't in your 20s, I don't think anything could persuade me to cut out moisturiser!

Ladymud, I have found only one bb creme I tolerate.. It is from House Étude, a Korean brand. I really really wanted to be in on the bb fun, but just keep returning to my well loved foundation best friend..

Thank you, everyone! I shall take this Botanics one back to Boots, as it's much lighter than Medium. And then I'll have a wander round Debenhams.
But 30 different BB creams? Blimey, life's too short Shock

I bought the CC Clinique based on a thread here and it was awful (if anyone likes it pm me - its a pale one)

I have bought the BB garner £8 and I like it. I get told I look well when I wear it - which seeing as I've not had a full night's sleep for 3 years is a win I'd say.

Didn't actually buy 30 different ones... Sephora, in the US, is a god send when trying new makeup Grin

Only ended up buying about 5. Fwiw, I hated the garnier ones, they were too shiny, as was the Clinique one. The only one I found that I loved was Dior anti-ageing or something like that.

Garnier obviously - auto correct ....

Yeah shiny probably right actually for Garnier tbh - though just about ok on me. Clinique v. Chalky.

Has anyone tried the Bobbie Brown BB ? I'd read good things about it but ££££ so expensive mistake to make.

Me neither, I can never find one to match my white as a sheet English rose complexion, so it always looks a bit grubby and it doesn't feel particularly moisturising either.

Relieved it's not just me.

Yes, the Bobbi Brown was a bit weird really. Consistency quite thick, but coverage was really minimal, and was hard to build on, as it tended to just move around what was already on your face, if that makes sense?

I don't have great skin though, so need better coverage than it had.

Reggie I use the Dior Nude, I love it. Really sheer. dunno about anti ageing though Grin

For the posters who feel they're making mistakes, do you not get the counter to apply to your whole face before buying? I know not possible with cheaper ones, but with Bobbi Brown I definitely would. It's a faff but worth it I think to find the right product. Obviously I don't do this with every product Confused, just the ones I am considering buying based on recommendations / back of the hand / sales schtick.

A lot of counters can also give you a sample - a few pumps in a little pot.

Ginga if you care to spend the money, try French brands like Dior and Givenchy. They do pale and luminous very well.

Anyone who is after coverage, the new NARS radiant creamy concealer is insanely good, incredible coverage but just disappears into your skin, tis magic. a few dabs lets you use something much sheerer over the rest of your face.

Have heard the Nude one is very good, but haven't tried it yet. Mine is Hydra-life ("Enhancing moisturiser for immediate beauty"... Anything promising immediate beauty is worth a go!)

The other good thing about this one is it last for bloody ages. Got my tube I'm on now for Christmas last year, and still probably have 1/4 left!

Ooh, rootypig thanks for the Nars tip... Heard it was going to be great before it launched, but didn't know anyone who had tried it yet (off to Space NK!)

I have ditched my bb cream too and gone back to foundation. I didn't like the coverage and it made my skin really greasy, it was like an oil slick by lunchtime.

Report
Bahhhhhumbug · 10/09/2013 14:00

Ahh right is that same as a concealer or something you put on as a sort of primer all over ?

Report
theginganinja · 10/09/2013 14:00

rootypig that's good to know, if I get the urge to try BB cream again, I'll definitely take your recommendation on board.
I'll stick with the Avene and the foundation that I'm using at the moment, simply because my skin finds the change in weather to be erm challenging, not ruling out having another go when the summer next rolls around though.

Don't know why l'm asking tbh as l rarely get blemishes now - finally!
The wrinkles are taking over where they left off however.

I use the Missha BB perfect cover in #13. Cheap from eBay and good on pale skin

I love my dior nude b&b cream as i have never worn foundation before apart from mineral makeup so it is a good step up for me. I still moisturise first though. Unless you have very oily skin I don't think you can get away with going it alone. Dior is expensive but I bought two tubes ( I like to mix 002 and 003 and in varying quantities depending on how tanned I am) in feb, wear it every day and there is still
Plenty left. A little goes a long way.

i have recently tried he shishedo one which is fab too. Think that might be even better although not been using it long enough to give a proper verdict.

I love my Estee Lauder one, which I think was £36. Wear it instead of foundation now.
