Botox v filler?

Following on from another thread;

I've always hated my frown lines. I'm not a cross person,fed up with being told "smile" when my face is still, and looking angry when caught unawares in a photo. I can live with laughter lines, they're nice. So I'm considering some "help"

I have some questions:

How do you choose where to go?
Botox or filler?
Are you happy with the results?
How long does it last?
Can you keep having it or is there a limit to how much you can have?

The basics -
Filler is for things like lines around your mouth, lips etc.
Botox will smooth your forehead, crows feet and those vertical lines some of us get above the nose.
If you have a face (like I do) that you are told to smile when your face is relaxed then botox or filler will not change your features hugely. I have a slightly down turned mouth and so look sad when I'm relaxed IYKWIM.

Though if it is forehead lines causing you to look angry, then botox might help.

I've been getting it done subtly for about 4 years and it stops me from looking tired, but I don't go for that "done" look.
As for where to go, referrals are the best options. I can recommend two different people in London but apart from that I can't help.

How often do you have it done?

Botox is for 'dynamic' lines, such as the 11s between your eyebrows, or your forehead. They're there because the underlying muscle has been contracting so much that it has caused these lines, and the muscle may be semi-permanently contracted IYKWIM. This gives the cross look you're talking about. So Botox paralyses the muscle, you can't frown, and lines fade. If your 11s are v deep you may need filler as well, after you see the Botox result.
Filler is used at the 'marionette' lines at the corner of your mouth, often make people look sad. Results are great. Length it lasts depends on the filler used. Botox lasts 6 weeks to 4 months, depends on how fast your body works thru it. I think the best result is ever so slightly under-done, so the main lines are almost gone but you have a tiny bit of movement. The ideal result IMO is to look refreshed. And not cross!

Yes agree with what the others have said. I just have botox in my frown lines so there is still some movement in my forehead.

Am contemplating getting filler in the lines between my nose and mouth - anyone had those done?

I could recommend someone if you're in the south west.

MrsCB haven't had them done, yet, but have seen it many times. You need a good 'operator', sounds like you have one already. Again, I think the poor result ones are the overdone ones. Under better than over. Or do the Nigella on it, and plump out your cheeks. Often has the effect of lifting everything below it a bit. Mid-face tends to lose fat as we age. Am I making sense?

I am not suggesting Nigella has had anything done, merely that her cheeks are plump.

Yes Mrs CB, I've had nose to mouth fillers. Just once. Bloody brilliant. Instant result. Hurt a bit but numbing cream, ice and gritted teeth. Has lasted over a year.

I've had tear troughs done and was really pleased with the result. I've been contemplating getting my mouth to nose lines done for a year or so. It's good to hear of people getting good results from it. I was worried it might look a bit 'puffy' but I might go ahead with it now.

I've had a Botox eyebrow and love it- makes my eyes look a little wider open and "awake" side effect is that my forehead lines are reduced although still plenty of movement.

I'm going to get my nose to mouth lines done in a couple of months including a tiny bit of filler in my top lip.

Wanted it done but not had nerve until a woman I know confessed shed had hers done and unlike many I would never have guessed.

Definitely get a recommendation!

Fillers are a bit more expensive. You'd honestly never know I'd had it done. Not puffy at all. Think that's a look you get with the cheeks but not to just plump out the nose to mouth lines.

A little Botox injected above the eyebrow and around the outside of the eye just lifts the lids and eye area a little. Lovely

How do you choose where to go?

Go to a medical professional, not a salon. Book a couple of consultations and ask lots of questions and see how you feel about it and how well you get on with the oractitioner. If you are going to start down the botox/filler route, you want someone you can discuss these things frankly with, without the hard sell, as your face will change with age and you need to be confident they will respond to how you feel about those changes...not turn you into a trout pouted plastic face . Tracey Mountford in London - very good clinic. Or look at the skin clinic chain - they use NHS doctors.

Botox or filler?

I get botox to my 'number 11s' ( eradicates the frown lines completely) and a light botox touch to my forehead and crws feet lines (softens ut doesnt eradicate) I get them done every 3-4 months. Filler works better on other parts of the face. I've had very subtle filler above my top lip for smokers lines. Need a top up once year-ish. No trout pout at all.

Are you happy with the results?

Yes. I feel 'fresher' ...less tired looking.

The danger with any of these procedures, psychologically, is that yiu end up chasing youth. I'm 36. At the moment, the procedures I have are very subtke and keep me looking alert rather than like an overworked, knackered mum (which is what I am). I think you need to 'check in' with yourself every year or so, though...a line free forehead at 36 is lovely. At 46 it might be scary...

Its also a financial commitment. I spend about 2k a year on this shit.

I LOVE my Botox . I wish I had done it years before I actually did. I have it for frown lines, lines between eyes, and laughter lines at corners of eyes. It is fab, fab, fab. I have it done about 3 times a year. I'm in London, so not much use to you when it comes to a recommendation.

Had review with many and choose best among them. Only go for a trained and experienced professional.

I chose Botox which is less expensive and more effective than Fillers.

Are you happy with the results?
Yea…I’m fully satisfied and happy with the result. I’ve done it for removing wrinkles and it really works. Planning to do it again for bringing some more changes in my face.

Can you keep having it or is there a limit to how much you can have?
My daughter is now doing a Botox training course in Aesthetic Advancement, Canada and she told me that using too much of Botox can result in adverse effect. So it’s better to have it in limit and also should have it with only an experienced professional.
