I've just got something I've wanted for YEARS!

A Hermes scarf.

Literally wanted one for 17 years - nearly bought some (yes, some!) second hand in Paris in Didier Ludot when they were 15 quid second hand (years ago and have been kicking myself ever since)

They have gone up and up in price till they're now about 80 quid second hand on EBay. - out of my reach.

Finally got one after 3 years of them being on watch on EBay (middle of the night auction from Russia) for £36.

I am so delighted - it's definitely not fake, is about 40 years old - has one teeny repair needed.

In blues, navy and a little bit of gold. It looks fab on, nearly all my clothes are navy.

I'm so happy ! Grin

Woop!

Great price for some vintage Hermes, well done.

Congrats!

You might find that the Hermes shops will be able to recommend dry cleaners - I've heard stories of dry cleaners not doing a great job with the scarves. Also, they might be able to recommend someone who can repair the scarf properly if you need that.

And you might be able to get a box for the scarf if it doesn't have one currently. And knotting cards with pictures and guides on how to use the scarves in different ways.

The scarves are amazing. I absolutely love them.

You should post a picture of the scarf - it sounds very pretty!

Someone sent my boss an Hermès scarf as a gift a couple of years ago, she really did not appreciate it. She pronounced it hurmeez and said 'only old ladies wear these things'.

Whadda waste!

I nearly snatched it out of her ungrateful hands! Grin

I'm very happy for you. Smile

I am glad someone appreciates Hermes scarves.

Before DC I used to have a large disposable income. I bought a Hermes scarf for her birthday. With hindsight she had no idea what it was. She told me she had lost it, and went back to look for it, but she thinks it was sucked up by a rubbish sweeper on New Street station. If she had never told me, I would never have thought about it.....but she told me. I wish she hadn't.

Anyway, enjoy your scarf! Smile

I don't understand what's so good about them. They do seem a little bit old ladyish. Care to explain?

Ok Lynette, seems like I'm going to have to get myself a couple then. I shall open up and ebay account and watch them for 3 years before I grab myself a total bargain. Well worth it!

You read a post from someone who has just bought something they have been coveting for year and saved up for and made negative comments.

laurie so glad you are thrilled. Enjoy your scarf and good tip about approaching Hermes for advise about repairs.

OH, congratulations! It is a very slippery slope - my journey into Hermes started with one scarf. You can take it to the store to be dry-cleaned. I have had very bad experiences taking my scarves to other dry-cleaners.

They may seem old-ladyish, and some styles just might be, but it depends on the way one wears them, and also many designs are not. What is so great about them - first, the silk used is unique - a thick silk twill which has a stiff feel initially, but softens with use (personally, I prefer the stiffness and wish it would last). Second, the designs - Hermes uses a select group of artists, each with a particular style. My favourite is Annie Faivre - her style is distinct, and the details are beautiful. Third, the colour palettes used are second to none. They are beautiful accents of colour, and feel fabulous on your skin.

Lucky you and well done. I'm hoping to inherit my mothers collection some day and occasionally she lets me borrow them now but never forgets I've borrowed them and is quick to ask for them back. My aunt recently passed away sadly but she had a large collection gathered over several decades. She passed them on to her sisters requesting they get worn and loved as much as she did. They are so beautiful and instantly change an outfit. I hope you enjoy wearing it.

That's lovely, Laurie. And how lovely for the scarf, too - it's like a re-homed dog that's going to be adored after a stint in Battersea Dog's Home/on e-bay.
