That's it really. I need a make over. I feel I dress too young for my age. I'm a mum of three fgs. I've been wearing same clothes for years. All battered and mishapened. Very neglected. Help advice needed.

No advice but I feel the same. I'm 31 with two DCs and have no idea what I should be wearing now. Plus I need to lose 3 more stones of pregnancy weight. Will be watching with interest.

Don't think my thread is v popular op. Can see I'm gonna be sat on the confused mummy shelf for a while.
Today I'm flaunting a pair of fluffy socks a old baggy jumper with stains from putting cream jumper in with red top not v cleaver. And three quarter length joggers. Fashion police come and get me! I surrender!

marking place in the hope that someone comes along to help. I have just turned 28 and am 19wks pregnant. I have had a massive clear out as most of my clothes are too young. I have no idea what ill wear after. I don't want to look mumsy but not like I'm wearing stuff an 18yr old would.

It doesn't sound like you are dressing too young for your age, more like that you have just given up! How about getting a nice pair of well-fitting jeans and some t-shirts and jumpers. I think you will feel much better if your clothes fit well.
Oh and don't forget the well-fitting bra!!

I'm 29 and a size 12ish I wear straight leg or skinny jeans with converse, birkenstocks or Dr martens dependant on weather.
I wear teeshirts/tops from gap with long boyfriend cardigans.
I also wear play suits and maxi skirts with well fitting bras and boob tubes/vest tops.
For work I wear tea dresses and brogues or skinny trousers.

I'm too old to flash my bra, so my clothes are not strappy. I'm not adverse to a bit of cleavage, but not at work. I have good legs so I wear short shorts happily.

I'm not a huge follower of fashion, I'm a grown up indie kid.

One thing I noticed at about 25 was I suddenly started noticing that materials were important. I'd rather buy one nice gap top than 4 Primark ones.

I'm 29 with 2 kids. I would agree it does sound like you've given up.
Make sure your clothes, whatever they are, fit you properly and are clean and ironed. I agree with gindrinker about buying quality items. I'm resolving not to buy really cheap things again- it's false economy and takes up too much space in my wardrobe!

cartoontrickster · 26/08/2013 21:32

gindrinker I like the sound of your wardrobe! where do you tend to shop? I have started to realise that all the cheap crap I buy is a bit of a false economy. I do wish I had better legs though as I do love dresses and skirts.
pipz are you still there? help has arrived!

Currently I'm wearing blue straight leg next jeans and a grey marl teeshirt from new look with grey converse.
I tend to buy clothes from gap, new look, m+s limited collection, miss selfridge and very occasionally French connection. Basics from h+m or supermarkets. Also quite like Ebay.
I'd like to wear all saints but the budget doesn't allow for it.

I pick clothes carefully now. If I don't love it I don't buy it. If the fit is off I don't buy it, if the colour isn't quite right I don't buy it. When I was 18 I was a lot more tolerant of poorly fitted clothes. I own less clothes but I wear them more and like them more.

I still dress like a teenager sometimes.

gin agree about the fit of clothes I've just got rid of so many maxi skirts/dresses and trousers that were too long. brought because I liked them but not worn as I never bothered to get them altered. complete waste of money. I really must stop buying £80 worth of primark bits and use the money for better quality items ill get more wear out of.
I rather like all saints to. they have an outlet at bicester village which is only around 20mins from me. Grin

IIWY, I'd try and work out my style first.

Then, do you want cheap and cheerful (Primark etc great for updating as are New Look) or do you want more middle or even high end?

Whistles are great for on-trend but expensive pieces which tend to last longer. Cos are lovely if you're taller and slim as are &Other Stories (seems to be younger and trendier than Cos).

I'd go into Oasis, Top Shop, Joules etc and just try on. Maybe go with a friend.

Create a look-book of stuff you like then either Pinterest it or post links to stuff you want to buy here. Skinny jeans, Ash Boots etc are popular here but they may not suit you and do you want to look like a lot of other people (not dissing people like that, I wear same!) or are you more Rock Chick/Emo/Sporty etc. Some women I know look fab in sports gear I don't, not much.

If it's basics for everyday and you want kid friendly stuff Hennes and Divided (their younger range) has great basics and fashion bits. Uniqlo good for basics too but I find them a bit boring. Sometimes TK Maxx turns up bargains. And places like Sainsburys, some great basics etc.

Then we have evening wear - again, do you go out with partner/girlfriends etc? Have a look and see what suits you. Do you like sequins, peplum tops etc?

Good luck. Smile

Hi all been off here as both my older dcs birthdays this week. I think when all back to school next week I will have a good chat with myself and a look around. I don't really like primark their clothes seem to become very mishaped when wash and cheap thin material. I try sainsburys George f&f as basics and find new look jeans a good fit. I'm more a flat shoe person my back won't take heels. I just don't feel very feminine and my husband politely tells me I have grey hairs! I'm a full on mess! The hair dye is happening on Thursday get ds birthday out of the way tomorrow. I think that's making me feel old too. It doesn't help I have little confidence. And with fashion confidence is a must I think. I think my style is quite boho. But I'm stuck and confused especially with the great British weather and knowing what to wear. Hand holding please! Really stuck. I'm such a plain Jane.

I'm 27, have only discovered a vague fashion sense recently, but I am a skinnies/midi skirt/ maxi skirt kinda girl.
A boho look can look v. V. Stylish, so youre half way there!

cat will it help me feel like I can wear a skirt? I love them but feel silly when I put a skirt on.

Report
CatAmongThePigeons · 28/08/2013 15:50

It may help you feel more comfortable, I think it takes time and a decent style skirt to help though- I wore my midi skirt with short leggings for ages as I wasn't comfortable having bare legs all the way up.
