Hot cloth cleansers and toner

Sorry, probably been done to death but I'm thinking about using hot cloth cleansers and I see that Liz Earle sells a toner alongside her cleanser so should I be using a toner after it?

I'll likely be going for the Superdrug or No7 one rather than the Liz Earle so shall I just pick a toner that sounds like my skin?

Or is the water enough and the toner just an unnecessary addition?

I'm so confused!

I was using Liz Earle's toner after the cleanser, and now just use the Superdrug Natural Radiance cleanser without a toner and I've not noticed any difference. If anything I felt my skin was a bit sticky after the toner.

I don't use a toner.

I don't use toner either.

I used to use liz Earle and used the Toner. It felt nice and had a nice smell, although I'm not sure what the purpose of toner is.

I can't afford liz Earle anymore. I have recently discovered the super drug natural radiance cleaner and moisturiser. I don't use a toner and so far, haven't noticed a difference.

I don't bother with toner either. I bought some last year at a make up party and keep forgetting to use it. I don't see the point as I like to wash my face with a face wash after using cleanser.

How does the super drug stuff compare to Liz's stuff?

Caroline Hirons recommends the Liz Earle toner [and she doesn't like LE stuff generally]. She's also very keen on toners - recommends x 2 - first one to exfoliate, the second to hydrate.

Thanks everyone, I'll see how I go without I think but if I feel I need something extra I will look at toners.

But doesn't the cloth itself exfoliate? And surely washing with a foaming cleanser afterwards and rinsing thoroughly negates the need for a toner? I don't feel clean unless I have washed my face after cleansing.

Toner is left over from the days when there were just gloopy cleansers that needed to be removed.

According to Elemis, toner is used to bring the ph of your face back to whatever it should be after you've used water on your face. If you don't do this your face struggles all day to do this itself. This is not good and causes rubbish skin, apparently. Not sure what I think about this.
My top tip, if you do use toner, is to decant it into a cheap spray bottle and spray it straight onto face, then wipe with cotton wool to remove excess. It last millions of times longer if you do this.

valium the superdrug stuff is really lovely, the radiance one is most similar to Liz Earle, the vitamin E one smells a little coconutty. I'm really glad I tried them and use for my second cleanse after a balm cleanser.
I have used them to remove makeup which they do very well (even waterproof) mascara but I prefer a balm to take make up off.

It is just sales talk. On the odd occasion I have remembered to use toner I then splash my face with water to feel clean. I am 54 and have excellent skin BTW.

Can I just add, the Superdrug Radiance hot cloth cleanser is only £2.99 at the minute - half price :)
Saw this thread on active this morning and remembered I'd been meaning to pop out and get some to replace my beloved Liz Earle, even happier to do so at £3!
Oh and I have never used toner with LE, waste of money in my eyes. I would say try without toner first and you will know yourself if your skin needs it or not.

I like the super drug radiance hot cloth cleanser- it's even better for £2.99. Takes off make up well, and I don't use a really hot cloth. Splash of cool water after is nice to refresh face- no toner for me i think it's too drying. Moisturiser is ok too, I haven't had a major break out or anything at any rate and it's quite light which is good for me.

Omg the vit e stuff is AMAZING! So much better than Liz Earle with stinky eucalyptus small! I've used it twice and my skin is so soft, oh and the day cream is SUPERB!! So exciting to find an affordable alternative to LE.Grin

I bought the burts bees hot cloth cleanser. I really like the texture but I hate the smell and it cost alot too. Very disappointed. Going to try the superdrug one next I think.

Glad you like it Valium, I'm looking forward to trying the day cream.
The vitamin e all over body cream is really good too :)

The day cream is excellent and so nice under make up, very similar to LE moisturiser. So impressed with the wash, going to get the radiant one as well to do a comparison especially as it's on offer atm.
