Best red lipstick

I'm after a proper, not at all pink, fire engine / pillar box / Hollywood red. Preferably one that will last more than a couple of hours. I tried a revlon one called Hollywood Red but it is disappointingly pink and not bright. I'm after full on red! Think Imelda May / Caro Emerald (was going to suggest 40s star but then realised I've only seen their black and white films...).

Any suggestions? If it doesn't cost £25 that'd be even better!

Mac Russian red.

Chanel is fabulous for reds but they're too drying for me.

i tried the kate moss rimmel one that is a kovelyred but very drying
same with a couple of body shop ones

that's the downside with reds though, they need the staying power so the glossier ones tend to slide off.

though i look like a drag queen in red, so not the best to ask Grin

excuse the non-capitals, i'm single handed typing because my daughter's guinea-pig is mn-etting with me.
though he knows nothing about fashion. he wears fur 24/7

what about 'all for eve'

Kate moss for rimmel is what you're looking for. I don't find it too drying and at that price you can risk it :)

There's a Rimmel pen (like a fibre tip) with a balm at the other end (1000 Kisses IIRC). They have a red.
I've used as a base then a No7 wine red lippie on top (to avoid the Drag Queen look Blush )

Thought of another Vixen by Sleek, not too pinky.

I bought a lip pallette to take on holiday (in the Boots sale after Christmas, 75% off)
IIRC 'Soap and Glory.
Not used it yet, but you cou;d mix your own shade?
Or do you want the uber-glam lipstick case to whisk out of your bag?

MAC "Ruby Woo" is gorgeous though it could be a little too matte for what you're after.

I love Cherries in the Snow, but it's very pink IMO.

My favourite true red lipstick is Roulette Red/Rouge Bingo by Dior. I'm afraid it probably is around £20-25 though. It stays on really well and is the one red lipstick that never bleeds on me. It's one of Dita Von Tees' favourites too!

That with MAC Cherry lip liner.

another vote for Mac Russian Red - the best true red out there, I use it with Mac lip liner in red. lasts forever. lovely.

Lipstick Queen gets good review, Saint Red (lovely colour) but the packaging lets it down IMO. Sinner Red is matted.

Mac Ruby Woo lovely but I find a bit orange-y after a while and its v.drying (on me).

oops meant to say matte (not matted) for Lipstick Queen Sinner Red

apparently Lipstick Queen medieval is the red that suit everyone, not tried it outside of the shop.

Watching this thread with interest. How hard can it be to find a red lipstick? Confused

That's what I thought MyChild!

After trying and failing I thought it better to bow to the superior knowledge of MN Smile

Mac's Ramblas red if you want a blue toned red. It's quite matt but stays on forever

Aaaaaaaah I was looking at the QVC reviews for Lipstick Queen don'tyouwant
There's a red called Queen Jean or something. And the Saint or Sinner

Seems to be a love it or hate it going by the reviews

Dh and I once spent an hour in Sephora at Times Square and he agreed with me that not one red suited.

But when I do find one it looks great.

I am going to a wedding on Saturday and want to wear red lipstick, but have an hour max for shopping before then.

So, what is a good make, and I will play with the color.

to those asking 'who hard can it be to find a red liptstick'?

well, yeah I hear you...but I know people still searching for that perfect nude, I think red is pretty much in the same category here. once you find the one that suits you, thats it Grin

70isa I tried the katemoss rimmel one but wasn't put off by colour, it was the perfume-y smell, maybe am too difficult to please!!! Wink

MAC Red by MAC. Same colour as Ruby Woo but not as dry.

my lipstick queen saint red has gone lumpy. I put this down to the lid not staying on properly. that's why am annoyed at the packing for the £££ I'd expect lid to stay on.

but to be fair, the colour or staying power doesn't compare to the best ever mac russian red.
