A challenge: I'm going to give you a rubbish description of a dress

... I fell in love with on a woman across the road today.

The easy bits:

  • navy jersey
  • knee length

    Not so easy:
  • it had some unusual draping going on. It looked as though the bottom of the front of the dress had been picked up and knotted at the bustline. The hem was straight though, so I think that there must have been masses of extra material to allow for the bit tied to the bustline.

It looked very cool and modern but easy to wear.

Googling navy jersey knot dress has got me NOWHERE. I need to call in the big guns....

I'm going to open the bidding with this from Jaeger in the meantime.

Wow I don't think I've ever had so many responses!

I was too busy gawping at the draping but I think that it was just a round neckline and possibly sleeveless.

There are some great dresses there but the draping on this was v different. Imagine you pick up your whole hem, and tie it just below the bust, creating a great big loop...

Hmm. I've seen some children's dresses like that (I even have a pattern to make one) but it's not a feature I've seen on an adult dress. Of course, it could be an older dress and then we are going to have trouble finding it.

There's a top in the same range which has the hem similar to what you have described.

That's very nice soaccident but the draping on this is much more pronouced. Imagine 3 foot of material or so, looping up from the hem and tied at the bust...

I think that I've seen it on girls' dresses too, now that I think about it. Good idea, Tolliver. Will try to find a pic to illustrate better what I mean...

Closer, Knitted but the body of the dress is flat and there is just one ... column? ... of fabric up the middle.

Gah, I'm going to have to draw it, aren't I?

I know what dress it is I think but I don't know the name of it.

It's one of those multi function dresses that they have in posh boutiques and the backs of magazines.

It goes halter neck or v neck, sleeves or not etc - 7 way dress????

Something like that.

Yep it is 7 way dress I was thinking of - google it, can't link

Really hope it is Smile
