Maxi dress for the short and fat??

GlaikitFizzog · 20/07/2013 16:31

I have a wedding next month. I'm 5'0 and between and 16/18 size wise. Big hips, big norks and a fairly narrow waist in comparison. It's obviously not tiny but is my narrowest point.

I dislike my ,legs but can cope with them out in opaques, but this weather isn't opaque weather, so I'm thinking maxi dress.

Will I look like a walking wigwam?

Also looking for suggestions. Budget as little as possible, but can go up to £100 if I can use accessories I already have.

No. They're for tall willowy people. You'd be better in a knee length wrap dress.

Wrap dresses don't work for me and usually ends up with my boobs falling out. Plus did I mention I hate my legs?? :)

I still hate them in tights.

Think I'll go for trousers then.

I'm the same height and dress size and I wear maxi dresses. To make them work for you, you need to find one that sits right on YOUR body, decide if you want it flowing or close fitting and then try on as many as possible. There's lots of different styles of maxis in the shops and I just can't imagine that you won't be able to find one that suits. As a side note, I'd avoid the Miss Selfridge ones purely because of the length of them unless you find you really fall in love with one and have the time and spare money to get the bottom altered. good luck hunting!

I think that if you can a) cope with very high heels and b) choose a very flattering column-esque one with not too much norkage hanging out then it might be okay. Otherwise, I think knee length or just below (with sheer tights) or some really, really well fitting trousers would be more flattering.

Can't cope with high heels 2-3 inches max and even then I'll need a pair of flats in my bag

Doesn't help that dh is 6'2 so I look even dumper standing next to him. Maybe I could lob his legs off with a chainsaw?

Your legs look find you they have a shape to them, with a small heel I think you would look nice in a knee lentgh or just below the knee dress. I think that would be more flattering that trousers too.

Have you had a bra intervention yet?
If not, then get that sorted first as it will make all clothes look so much better on you.

Lower heels not necc kitten are v in fashion atm. There's some cool two tone orangey ones in marks sale I'm looking at.

I'd do a jersey dress and amazing shoes and get your hair done.

I have had the intervention! Norks are in the right place. Shame there isn't an intervention for the chunky of calf.

Lady, I'm not feeling your honesty.......

My friend is a similar size and shape to you and she looks lovely in a skirt and fitted top with kitten heels. Separates are sometimes easier than dresses.
