I want to buy some navy, wide straight legged, preferably drawstring waist, linen trousers with a budget of £40 though less would be good! I have searched in every shop I can think of but can't find any! Please can any of you super shoppers help?!

Don't do it! Step away from the linen drawstring trousers! But at least they're not white.

Or post in Chat where people will answer but not judge.

But if you absolutely must, John Lewis have one last pair in size 16 in their sale if that's your size.

Thank you bestwest and dreaming, will venture there and see if they fit. Am a size 12 so the john Lewis are too big but I have to ask lady; whats your issue with linen trousers?!! Not that it will stop me wearing them as I love them but I'm curious? And is your issue with the trousers themselves or what they are worn with?!

What's wrong with white?? I'm wearing white today :(

It's a traditional S&B shibboleth because they are generally extremely unflattering (especially in white). If you're wearing them on holiday and don't give a monkeys about that as long as they're cool and comfy then naturally go right ahead.

It's mumsnet bollocks. Only the thin and beautiful must wear white whilst everyone else must swelter in their jeans for fear of upsetting anyone else.

Hoever, in real life, white linen trousers are great for summer and look good on most people so idiots that try to tell you that they look shit can fuck right off.

Someone once said that when you wear linen trousers it looks like your vagina is eating your clothes - and it's true, it does! Grin

They crumple up around your groin, sag at the arse and are the wardrobe staple of frumpy mum.. Sorry, but that's the perception..

I think that the pitfall with linen trousers is that there is the potential for serious discrepancy between how you think you look (and how you looked in the changing room) and how you actually look at the end of the day.I speak as a reformed linen trouser addict myself.

If you go out in tracky bottoms then you're not going to get a nasty surprise when you see the photos - if you go out in drawstring linen then you might. Or you might not of course - either because they're comfy and cool and you don't give a toss, or because they're staggeringly expensive heavy weight and impeccably tailored (and you have a stylist following you around with a hand held steamer).

Or you're just a normal person who doesn't have time for this shit. This is the part of mn I really hate.

Ha ha ha Grin thats really made me laugh!! I do know what you mean but tend to think that it happens more to; errmm how shall I put it politely; more mature ladies with saggy bottoms? I wash mine after every wear to ensure they keep their shape and make sure I wear good underwear that makes them hang nicely! And they only look frumpy if you put them with a crap top and shoes! But anyway, thats just my opinion and to each their own! Long live linen trousers!! Wink

Um, you're in the style and beauty section Gwendoline Hmm
What's to hate? And you're a little aggressive aren't you?

Beautyguru asked a question and we answered it.. Maybe you're in the wrong section.. Or website..

Gwen, calm down, it's only linen trousers we're talking about, not Middle East peace.
I agree they are comfortable and cool to wear but you need to not give a toss about the saggy arse look etc.

Beauguru good attitude - wear what the hell you like Grin I don't like them generally as I really do believe your vagina eats them (!) but some of the heavier duty linen ones are better..

I don't care tbh, they're cool and comfortable and saves having to shave your legs umpteen times a week in hot weather, thereby avoiding cutting them to ribbons. I have about five pairs and they're from Primark. This is probably why I don't post in S&B.

Actually, if forgot, I did buy these in every colour.. Blush But the mix with cotton totally changes how the material behaves.. Grin

Only by the MN fashion police. I like linen trousers and have a pair of Per Una navy heavy linen trousers (before Per Una clothes were designed by crack addicts). They hang beautifully and look good with a vest top and smartish jacket.

I love linen trousers! Straight leg ones really suit my shape. I have a few Primark ones and I've worn them them for the last few years. Bugger what anyone else says!! :)

River island used to do lovely linen trousers every year with a sailor style waist with buttons on the left and right.

This is the first year that they don't seem to have done them and I'm a bit gutted. They were a lovely fit and didn't crease horribly.

A friend also told me that Asda have got some nice ones ( I've never bought clothes there myself so can't verify it..)
