Going without deodorant/anti-perspirant

I haven't worn deodorant for the last 8 years or so, not since I was a teenager. And I still have friends Grin though none of them know I don't wear it. I wear a little perfume every day, but that's it.

I was interested to find out that there's a sizeable minority of the UK population who don't sweat/emit much odor at all (there's a link with having dry earwax too...and having East Asian ancestry, though I can't relate to the latter) and so deodorant products are wasted on them. IMO, the thought of putting on all those chemicals unnecessarily makes me a bit uneasy.

Do any of you not wear deodorant or anti-perspirant either? Would be interested to hear what you think (even if you think the idea of going without is gross!)

I am too sweaty to not wear any especially as I do exercise classes too

My DH doesn't wear any. He doesn't sweat much and isn't smelly. I always do, and definitely notice if I forget.

I do and need to as I sweat easily....lovely, eh? But past boyfriends didn't bother and didn't smell at all. A daily shower and clean clothes were all that was needed.

I wear a natural deodorant , no anti perspirant.

Many anti perspirants do not agree with me - I get tender and sore pits. So I try and use the minimal amount but cannot get away with none sadly.

I'm quite stinky so prefer to wear it, but dh doesn't.

Not all nationalities have the same number of sweat glands/propensity to sweat. IIrc asian people from the Far East ( like China, Japan etc) sweat less.

I only think of wearing deodorant if I'm working, just in case it's a hot room.

But if I forget, it's no big deal.

I don't sweat very much though. I would wear it more if I did.

My boyfriend doesn't wear any and never smells. I couldn't go without it at all.

I couldn't be without it and always have an extra can in my car/handbag. My husband doesn't - showers a lot (first thing/when he gets in from work etc). He prefers not to put chemicals on his skin but does if he knows he will be out all day/evening like a wedding function etc.

I had a friend who didn't wear any as didn't believe she needed to...but she definitely did whiff when it was warm

I do wear it, but I often think this on the "How often do you shower / bath?" threads, with people getting their knickers in a twist about those who don't need to shower every day. I genuinely think people must have different "sweaty-nesses". There is only a tiny, tiny minority of the population that actually smell unpleasant, but many, many people don't shower or bath more than a couple of times a week.

DH doesn't wear deodorant because he doesn't smell, AND he has dry earwax. I never knew there was a link! He's not Asian though.

I, on the other hand, have wet earwax and I couldn't go without deodorant...

I need to wear it, and shower, every day. DH can get away with it, he barely sweats at all, let alone enough to smell Envy

I shower every day (can't wake up properly without a shower)!and still need to wear deo.

I even have a can in my draw at work, I wonder if its to do with the material I wear? I do do a lot of rushing about as well though.

I usually shower once/twice a day and probably wear deodorant once every three days on average - thats really as i forget to apply.

I hate spray deodorant and will only use roll on

How do you know whether your ear wax is dry or wet?

Report
Fraxinus · 16/06/2013 21:53

Depends on the weather. Although I get out of the habit in winter, but sometimes the central heating at work is a bit much.

Also I find wool and cotton clothes make me smell less than acrylic.

One roll on or stick will last me at least a year.

Some people don't need to. I most definitely do. Ishower twice a day and wear a 72 hour antiperspirant and still smell by thr time it gets to my evening shower. A normal antiperspirant lasts me a couple of hours maxSad

I don't sweat very much at all, but I prefer to have a little tiny spritz of it. It is awkward finding one that doesn't smell worse than sweat though.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom - I found out how when my DP ended up with a glob of sticky, dark brown earwax in his ear after a flight...ergh...I've never seen anything like that come out of my own ears!!

So dry is what, a little bit that will stick to a cotton bud? I am still confused Confused. I know I don't get much ear wax, and have a very sweaty forehead but not elsewhere. I wonder where that puts me Grin

I don't seem to produce any earwax and I don't sweat much at all.

I have very little underarm hair (don't know if this is connected?) but I do use deodorant 'just in case'.

Binks, Sure (silver can) deo smells nice and fresh.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom - I just have little yellow flakes, so it must be dry...maybe...
