Help needed please, I'm after a nice plus size frock

Wedding season is approaching, I have two to attend so far, thankfully no guest crossover so I can wear the same outfit twice.

I am a size 20
Hourglass
Good decollete
Horrible rugby player legs and cankles so don't like short skirts and no bare legs
I need wide fitting shoes and can't walk in heels which limits me somewhat shoeswise
Dark red hair, blue eyes, very fair.
Budget is around £50, more if I don't need to buy shoes.

I'm just about to start looking myself but would appreciate any pointers.

Ayethankyew :)

Have you thought of a 40s or 50s style? They are very flattering Smile I wore this one to a wedding last year and it was much admired. They come in larger sizes, look good with cute flat pumps and you can add a shrug or wrap if needed

I agree with the 40s ir 50s style, red hair and an hourglass figure would be perfect for them.

Miss Fortune and Lindy Bop do nice ones.

yy to 50s style and ballet flats. Lady V is worth a look, love this one and this one. Like the other brands mentioned they do look best with a petticoat (as per photos)

I love my petticoats, but had to wear my dress without one so I could sit down for the meal without getting a face full of gathered netting! The Hell Bunny dresses I have look nice without a petticoat if needed, but look gorgeous with added volume.

I have a couple of H & R Lonson dresses with built in net underskirt which are beautiful but I don't think they make past a size 18 (they do have a nice stretch to the fabric though, so a size 20 may be OK in an 18 if you can try one on OP) ... If you like them of course! Grin getting a bit carried away, I'm very passionate about my dresses!!

Boden have a sale on at the moment and go uo to a size 22. Free postage and returns too, so you can order a few things/sizes and hopefully find something suitable

Igigi at Curvety. Cut for impressive racks and waists. Superb maxi-dresses for women who want to look special.

this isn't at all 50s, just in case you hate the look Wink Over budget though.

Eric - you need to invest in a chiffon petticoat, they're lovely and soft, move beautifully and don't twat you in the face when you sit down.

Love the 50's look, will do link clicking right away
But had to come on first and say pmsl @ "doesn't twat you in the face when you sit down"
Should have put that on my list of prerequisites Grin

A serious petticoat issue! When I sit down in my huge net one you can hardly see me for layers of netting Grin

Sounds spot on!

An excellent, soft, very full petticoat is pricey unfortunately (I have this in black) I'm happy to choose my dresses around my petticoat rather than the other way around. But, there are acceptable ones to be found for much less, the lady V ones are probably fine TBH. It's only when you try to get loads of volume with net that it can go a bit awry.

MrsLettuce can I ask what colour petticoat you have? I'm thinking a black one may be a wise investment from that lovely website Smile but the white would look lovely too... But too "weddingy" for everyday wear?

EricIsMine · 29/04/2013 21:28

tigerfeet I like the red ones.. Very pretty! Would match a tea dress nicely! These are nice too tigermilly but I don't know how they fit as I've never seen this brand in the shoe (so to speak!)

TigerFeet · 29/04/2013 21:32

I thought the red ones, need a bag to match now...

and maybe a big flower for my hair, may have to die it brown again so it doesn't clash with the red Grin
