so i went for a wax today, i just walked into a few places to see who would have an immediate appointment available...
it was awful. the therapist was really highly strung, she ripped a few of the strips upwards (that's wrong right?) so they ripped at the skin. then she kept telling me the problem was the fact that my hair was too long down there (aren't they supposed to be able to deal with a bush?) she even told me i should shave it a week before getting another wax, and that she was therefore going to leave the lips 'this time'. i mean, who shaves the inner bits anyway? seems a little dangerous! and it was really, really painful, which she kept asking about, and i said it was painful and she said 'well it's hair removal' as in that's what it's like. she also placed my hands to stretch the skin. i was shaking afterwards and felt pretty traumatised :( it was totally wrong right? i've only been once before but that was a while ago. i don't remember it being like this though. do i need to review her/report her?!

I'd phone up the salon and ask to speak to the manager and complain about it.

I know that they normally advise you to trim, and that in the past (just for a normal bikini wax, not for a Brazilian) they've always got me to stretch the skin taut.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience - painful waxes are the pits.

FWIW, her placing your hands to stretch the skin is not unusual and usually makes it less painful, I've never had a problem with therapists asking me to do this. And it is better to trim your hair beforehand as long hair is difficult to wax and much more painful than if it's been trimmed or hasn't fully grown back. But she sounds like an awful therapist and really unsympathetic and I'm sorry that you had such a nasty time.

i guess i need to pluck up the courage to call up and complain. she left wax on me too. stuck to my jeans on the walk home!

I'm a therapist myself and I'd never talk to a client like that, so yes, call the salon and report her poor attitude!

however, most salons advise clients to have a trim before having a wax if by own admission the hair is long (if the hair is too long it can get stuck in the wax and therefore you'll get that ripping/pulling feel) ... on a few occasions I've actually trimmed it for the client (generally only regulars who are comfortable with me) but that said a few that have come in with especially long hair have been fine with me trimming first .

the wax should be applied in the direction of the hair growth and the strip should be pulled off against the direction of the hair growth, so if your hair is growing downwards (most peoples does) Then her removal of the strip shouldn't of been an issue.

asking you to stretch with your hands is good! as we all know fanny flaps get in the way so asking you to pull the skin tort helps the removal of the hair :)

if your unhappy with your treatment, ring the salon :) :)

apply some teatree cream (Australian bodycare do a good one) if your still sore, it will sooth it :)

was she quite young? perhaps newly qualified? ... I've had to teach so called "qualified" therapists how to pull a strip off properly as a lot of them pull upwards!!

Your experience sounds awful and amateurish. Did they use strips with warm wax as opposed to hot wax on its own? I thought that was a no-no for bikini waxes.

I don't know...from what the others have said, maybe she wasn't so bad and it was your perception of it? Hair removal can be more painful at certain times of the month as well.

I don't have any ideas, just reading objectively.

brazilian wax is very painful,there is no other way to describe it,but sometimes it really depends on the experience of the therapist and the quality of the wax ,some wax brands are awful.
i once left bleeding due to the inexperience of the so called beauty therapist

OP, I'm sorry you've had such a horrible experience. But intimate waxing is very painful. There's no getting around it - that shit's going to hurt, whoever does it. Having your pubic hair ripped out at the roots is not ever going to be a pleasant, fluffy experience.

I had that waxed twice and just gave up..thought i would get used to it? haha i walked around the house in really baggy harem pants (think they're called) and no knickers, cos it was so sore lol
look into laser hair removal, more expensive but less painful!!
Groupon and wowcher usually have good deals for this....research the company before buying one tho!!
Aloe vera might help to soothe aswel!

Make sure next time they use lycon wax so they don't put fabric on to pull it off but rather the wax sets and they pull that off - its pretty painless.

Its worth paying more for a good brazilian - if you're in the bath/bristol area I could recommend 2 very good places.

Agree with MrsCampbellBlack the Lycon wax is far better. I don't find a brazilian hurts (I think it hurts more having my legs done) but the Lycon is definitely less painful than the other wax.

All sounds pretty normal to me.

Unless you want to pay 2 therapists you will be asked to stretch skin.

Waxing hurts.

They rip against direction of hair growth so generally upwards.

Waxing is harder and hurts more longer hair is.

Trim beforehand, take pain killers an hour beforehand and expect to get involved.
