Are Radley bags really so awful?

HarrySnotter · 04/04/2013 17:24

DH bought me this bag for my birthday. I actually really love it but a 'friend' (work colleague really) has informed me that Radley are totally naffola and that everyone will now think I have no taste.

I don't normally give a toss what other people think of what I like or if I have taste or not (I probably don't!) but I'm actually a little hurt because DH put a lot of thought into it and got me one he knew I'd like. Which I do. I don't really know why I'm bothered, I suppose I just feel that she's pissed on my chips a bit. Sad

I love Radley. I always go into the shop to see what's new.

I think it's lovely that DH chose something he knew you would love.

Ignore her.

It's lovely and your "friend" is a dick.

I like your bag ;) and I have a Radley purse. I bought it when I used to, you know, go out of the house to work at a place where I used to get, you know, paid! SAHM now Grin

I think that if you like it then it's fine.

This stuff about naffness always starts when nice things are copied and reproduced on market stalls which devalues them because people don't know if it's real (not naff) or fake (naff). For example, Burberry used to be a popular classic brand, then it got "chavved" by suddenly appearing on every market stall in every town. Is the same thing happening to Radley?

It's silly isn't it, I don't really know why it bothered me. Probably because she's always dripping in Prada and the like and I felt like she was putting me down a bit.

DH saved up for ages to buy it, we don't have loads of spare cash so it's special to me. I never understand why people have to be horrible fr the sake of it!

Lovely bag. What colour is yours? Your work colleague manners are totally naffola imo.

I personally don't like Radley bags, BUT, i think your 'friend' has been horrible here, because it is a gift you already have.

All that really matters is whether you like it, and if you do then great and well done to your DH for knowing your taste.

Yes, it is lovely and a very thoughtful gift. Which colour did you get?
Perhaps she's jealous? She is definitely mean-spirited.
I would take pleasure in obviously enjoying it and showing her that her comment hadn't set you Grin.

HSnotty, I've got a grenadine Rockland Broad workbag, and I always get loads of genuine positive comments on it when I carry it - and hardly ever get any comments or observations when I carry a premium designer.

But, besides all of that, your bag was a well-thought-out and lovingly chosen gift from your hubby, so that in itself should give you a warm glow.

Carry it with pride, and to hell with whatever your work colleague thinks.

My DH got me a Radley purse a while ago. I don't give a bugger if it's "naff" as DH got it and chose it.

It's the green one Sue. I wish I'd been able to think of a witty comeback but I just sat there clutching my naffola bag thinking that I would like to deck her.Grin (I wouldn't, honest!)

I think it must be my anti-virus software. Anyway I have got round that and agree that your friend is being unkind. It is a lovely bag.

You should have given her the MN line "Did you mean to be so rude?"

It's a lovely bag. She's a turd.

Viviennemary · 04/04/2013 17:40

She is extremely bad mannered to have said that about your bag. Don't listen to a word of it.

A lovely choice HarrySnotter. The quality of the leather Radley uses makes their products great value for money (unlike overpriced and much copied Prada).

I'm not myself a big fan of Radley- just one of those silly personal prejudices, probably to do with the dog, which you can easily take off anyway - but plenty of people do like the brand, including plenty with good taste.
I think your colleague was incredibly rude and certainly not a friend, just snide. As long as you like it, which you do, enjoy it!

I've seen loads of fake prada shite. Never seen fake Radley. I like it. Ignore her, she sounds like a knobbed!

She's probably jealous. What did her Dh buy her for your birthday?

(i have a couple of radley bags btw! My Mum lives near a Radley outlet shop and I love both of my radley bags)

Ah thanks ladies, I've fallen in love with my naffola bag all over again. Smile

Wouldn't it be awful if I accidentally caught her a glancing blow on the side of the head with said bag whilst leaving the office? Totally accidentally you understand. Grin
