1. Help me choose between Clinique City Block 25 & 40... 2. Star ratings...

  1. Ok, so I thought I'd made the decision (thanks to loads on here saying city block fab), bought city block 40 yesterday (advisor on counter was useless on advising any diff between the two so I just went higher because why not)...

But now I'm wondering about the horrible white glow thing - does city block cause this, and if so is 40 whiter than 25 (I have olive skin which I think makes the white even worse!)

  1. I haven't got the bottle in front of me now, but just doing research online now it seems star rating is key (I'm sure I'm v-behind in not knowing this) Does anyone know what star rating city block is?

City block doesn't have a star rating.

No, it won't be white.

SPF 40 has higher levels of antioxidants iirc.

Great,that's a relief re whiteness.

But if no star rating how am I to know about UVA? Or am I getting this completely confused? Isn't star rating all about UVA and if city block doesn't have a star rating does that mean no UVA protection (please bear with my ignorance levels on this!)

Yes, star rating is UVA (I know this because I had to write about all this recently). You need UVA. I'd ditch it and go for La Roche Posay.

I'm sure Clinique know what it is but they don't publish it for some reason.

I stopped using it because of the lack of UVA rating.

No manufacturer will tell porkies about SPF.

Clinique says SPF 25 or 40 and that's what you are getting.

Star ratings apply to sun screens for body etc but never seen them on cosmetics.

I use both these Clinique products for 25 years and love them.

I have seen the Roche Posay in Boots but it looked orange in the tube- is it???

No7 gives UVA rating on skincare and dermatologists have recommend LRP to me for it. The tinted fluid in particular (sadly not in Boots).

Don't think they're lying Edible, but I was under the impression SPF only related to UVB, so could be high UVB/ SPF, but nevertheless low UVA... ?

What Turry said ^^

I've recently converted to La Roche Posay tinted one and love it - quite chemically but looks nice, just orangey enough to warm up my skin a bit on non makeup days. I used City Block spf40 last summer and did find it gave a white cast, which seemed to fade. LRP is cheaper too and often on offer 3 for 2.

ll the info is on the leaflet in the box- i am sure now i think about it that Clinique is 4*.

Ask at counter?

sorry pressed too soon- it's full UVB/ UVA protection.

Ask at counter to see leaflet or might even be on box.

You need five, not four, stars for full UVA.

I have a fairish south-asian skin tone and it leaves me with a slight white glow too which does sink in/fade after a while. I assume those that are saying they haven't noticed are Caucasian. Go for it if you can wait a while for it to sink in. Haven't tried La Roche Posay, its next to try on my list. Have bare escentuals powdered sunscreen at the moment.

Oh and the 25 is slightly better than the 40 in terms of white cast. I have both.

I was going from memory re. the no, of stars- been buying it for so long I don't read the leaflet any more.

It could well be 5*.

Ask the asst on the counter to tell you.
