FINALLY found a red lipstick that doesn't make me look ill or like the Joker.

Revlon Lip Butter in red velvet. I've tried all the reds that supposedly suit everyone...and most just made me look weird. Red velvet looks so natural, yet still properly red, that I now feel like I look weird without it!

Anyway just thought I'd share in case anyone is interested. For reference I'm a HoC Winter with dark brown hair, dark greeny brown eyes and very pale skin that can look sallow/ yellow in the wrong colors.

I like red lipstick, I just wonder if it would look too much with my red hair

Gabbacia- you must look like me!!! You have described my colouring exactly! I am excited as I have never found the right red- I will be rushing to Boots to try tomorrow and I have a £2 off voucher as well!! Thanks xxx

Thank you, will give this one a try as we are the same colouring and I really fancy trying a red.

Does it last though? I bought one of the lip butters this week and it looks lovely when just on, but is all gone within half an hour, not sure if I am licking it off, must be I suppose. I am the exact same colouring as you describe, might be tempted to try that one as well, but need to kick the licking habit.

Ha, I want to see pics of you all now to see if we all look alike! Let me know if you all like it.

It lasts as well as most lipsticks whoknows - couple of hours maybe? Its much less sheer and buttery than the other lip butter I have (Berry Smoothie - also gorgeous and will suit all of you!)

Well, I've got lots of points on my Boots card, might look for it tomorrow. I haven't bought many lip colours in the last couple of years, it's about time I invested I think. Thanks Gabaccia

I've just ordered red velvet online with boots.

And added a couple of horrible pics of my self for one evening only Grin I'm growing a short hair cut out so only really wear my hair up and don't like having my picture taken.

The second one is my work profile one - be as harsh as you like, I have wine - it's dreadful isn't it? But more importantly will I suit my £10 inc P&P purchase?

That's interesting - red lipstick has always made me look like a mad lady (rather than Marilyn Monroe). I've got dark hair and pale skin too. I think the trouble is that lots of red lipsticks are just the wrong side of orange.

Is the red velvet one too orange?

Bluelightsandsirens you are gorgeous!

I think red glossy lippy will look great on you :) And if you're sick of that growing out cut, definitely get it cropped/bobbed, either a crop swept forward or a bob with a fringe - I think short hair would really suit your face.

Lisa Eldridge has a video on choosing reds. I think orange reds are hard to wear, I always go for blues. To match my skin. Wink

The red velvet isn't orange at all - any hint of orange or peach looks terrible on me. But equally, if its too blue toned it looks weird too (mac ruby woo makes me look like a freak). I think red velvet is quite neutral. I was tempted to try the candy apple shade that sali hughes recommended but thats definitely on the orange side.

Arteggs I just bought it in one of the big Boots branches.

Bluelights I missed your photos, can only see one of them. You look to have darker skin than me but it could just be the lighting in the photo (and yes, you are gorgeous :) )

Dolomites I've looked at every guide to choosing reds that I could find and none worked on me until red velvet! Everyone's skin tones are so different though, it's just trial and error I suppose.

I've had red velvet for a while (got it from US seller on ebay) lasting power is quite good, it's a fairly dark cherry red without shimmer. My new favourite red is also very wearable, new max factor colour elixir giant lip pencil in passionate red. Am speaking as a dyed in the wool red lippy wearer.

I bought the Revlon kissable lipbalm in Romantic and was very disappointed. It is far more orange than it looks in the tube and far more sheer than the other colours in the range-I have 3 other shades and have worn them to death.

Am still searching for a red to suit me-very pale skin but with a pink undertone-I think!-blonde hair.very pale blue eyes. The search goes on!

Haha! Do you like it Euphemia? (I ask because if you were me I'd have gone straight into the cafe loo to try it on Grin)

I didn't like either of the Kissable ones I bought ashoe (crush and lovesick). They are so hard and pointy and smell weird, not balm like at all.

Revlon Red Lacquer Super Lustrous lipstick is a good colour for red scaredy cats as it goes on quite sheer but is very buildable. If you are intimidated by red I'd advise blotting it down to a stain while you get used to it. My twitter picture shows what a red lippy queen I am //www.twitter.com/muddlinleigh

Bloody phone!

I have been thinking about a fringe but my hair is really curly.

I've ordered the lipstick, first one in years.

Dior lipstick in Diva is a good choice for a proper yet softer red if that makes sense.
