Hair gel ,mousse, spray that doesn't make my hair look like a haystack

I have a lot of lotions and potions to use on my hair. I have recently had it cut shorter and it needs tending to every morning >mourns easy life with shoulder lengthy hair<

So I use a variety of sprays and gels to try to get that 'kempt' look for the office without having to wash and style every day. Problem is that the stuff I am using leaves my hair dry and haystacky . I cant name all of the things I use as I am tied to the sofa right now by a sleeping dog but its all normal ,cheapish stuff available in superdrug ,boots etc.

Possibly some of the problem is that the stuff is old as it is left over from when I last had short hair ? Is there a holy grail of hair styling product that costs a bit more but works wonders and doesn't leave tinder dryness behind?

I wash my hair and style it using a hot brush/straighteners and some of whatever 'stuff' is available . It always looks lovely and bouncy at this stage but it soon degenerates into a mess. By the time I arrive home for exampl the hair at the back is sticking up( cowslick at the back) and the top feels very dry and sticks out in different directions.

I really dont have the time nor inclination for a hairwash every day. Can anyone help?

I just had all my hair cut short and was having the same problem. My hair either totally dried out and straw like or so greasy it needed washing every day.

Now I've been using a hair "putty" instead and its fab. Lets hair move naturally but keeps shape all day if that makes sense.

I put on wet hair and on non wash day i just damp hair and reapply. Bought well known brand only 2 pounds in supermarket.

whoamiiam that sounds exactly what I need thank you. Thanks

I haven't tried hair putty before because I thought it was for spiky rather than softer looks. I will trust your opinion and give it a go.

Just looked its loreal studio fibre putty. They do lots of different ones i haven't tried any others but i went for one that said it was a medium strength hold as didn't want static hair!

I hate the feel of most products but it works for me and only need a tiny bit.

Also mourning easy shoulder length hair a little!
