Wellies for wide calves

I know it's been done in the past but help please.
Looking for tall Wellies ( probably plain colour) to accommodate my muscular (?) calves ( 42cm) .... in the past I have had a pair of regular Joules ones which I could just squeeze into ( uncomfortably). I am considering some lace up Ilse Jacobsens which will be pricey but I might justify on the basis that I will likely wear them for years..... The more frugal side of my personality says just find some cheap plain ones that are comfortable.

I should say I already have a pair of short Wellies but I really need some tall ones as well. thanks.

I have some Hunter wide calved ones, knee height, plain green. Really nice.

Have you tried Jileon? Personally I wasn't keen but I think they've got quite a few styles to pick from.

I think mine are these ones

The Hunters are nice but still pricey.... ( although we might be moving back to North America and everyone will be dead impressed ).... I will check out Jileon.

No hunters fit true to size.... If I'm a size 6 in most things will that be the case?

I find those Argyll ones are spot on size wise. They are large in the calf which makes them more roomy than other makes.

I bought a size up but wear them with thick socks /2 pairs socks.

I find hunters a bit tight in calf. I went for the shorter ones and they're very snug (ie only a sock but no jeans will fit inside)

I have a pair of hunters which have an adjustable calf? (Size 3 feet and they assume I have the leg size of a ten yr old and I am 5"10)!

Ariat ones fit my enormous calves!

I bought Dunlop men's wellies for £10 in my local shoe shop.

They are much wider on the calf. However I bought a 7 - my feet are a 7, but I guess men's 7s are bigger than ladies 7s. They are a bit big - but room for chunky socks.

I am wide of calf (which I hope is from running rather than genes).

I wear regular Hunters. I can wear them with welly socks and jeans comfortably, so I think they're pretty capacious.

Those of you with wide calves - what sortof measurements are we talking?

Report
TheMightyLois · 06/02/2013 20:35

Argh I've just measured mine and they're 48cm Blush

Mine are 42 cm - but it would be no bad thing to have some room to spare for nice thick socks or skinny jeans

Does anyone know if women's Dunlops are wide or is it just the mens? I'm a size 6 so I am sure the mens will all be too big. Lots of lovely boots everyone but mostly not much cheaper than the Ilse Jacobsens but more choices ;)

Muck Boots. They have neoprene stretchy calves so are comfortable and really warm too. They come in green or black mainly I think.

Aigle Parcours Vario - they are brilliant.

Fit my v wide calves easily, with jeans underneath and are kind of shaped around the ankles, so they look more like boots and less like wellies, if you see what I mean?

Quite expensive, but well worth it.

I have a pair of wellies made by these guys; still going strong after 8 years! They do foot size and calf size, too.

Pretty pricey, but very warm.

I also have the Argylls. They're Hunters, but not as expensive. I really like them.
