What bra size should I buy with these measurements?

rubytutu · 05/02/2013 14:06

Under bust 29
Over bust 34 or 34.5 depending on how tightly you measure!
For many years wearing a 34B, more recently a 32C but do get a 'four boob' effect with that.
At a point where want to buy some nice bra sets but really want to get sizing right as spending more than my usual £10 t shirt bras.
Also what brands would suit these measurements?
All help welcomed, thanks!

I'd try a 28E, 28F and maybe a 30 DD. I suspect that a 28 band may fit better but remember to try it on back to front first to establish the band size. It should be tight (but bearable) and you should only be able to get two fingers under the band. If a 28 is ok back to front, then put it on the correct way round and work up through the cups (remembering to scoop!) until you get a cup that completely encases the breast tissue and lies flat between your boobs.

30 or 28 band size, then try E and DD cups.

Agree. See which of the 28 and 30 back is most comfy but still snug and then start with an E cup and work up or down as Sorrel says.

Go to Bravissimo and get fitted would be my advice. Honestly, you will love it.

Bravissimo are fantastic. I wish they had more branches especially some in the SW.

Thanks for the great advice on this and the small boobs thread which I have now read entirely! There are a few bravissimo stores nearby, will report my findings at a later point.

I think those are my measurements and I wear a 28E or a 30DD.

Putting my self on here as I need to do this bra measure thing. Am wearing a 32 c but it is so not right.

Sorrell can you post again about how you go about finding your true size.

Thanks.

Ok, measure under your bust whilst wearing a bra. Hold the tape measure tightly. That measurement is your band size (do not add any inches). Then measure across the fullest part of your bust (either wearing a fairly good bra or if you think your bra is compressing you too much, you can measure by leaning forward until your boobs are hanging down towards the floor and measure around the fullest part). Hold the tape measure fairly loosely. The difference between the two meauremets will give you a starting point for your cup size.

Cup size is much harder to get right than the band size so be prepared for some trial and error!

Reading with interest. Think I'm missing some info though Sorrel, from what you've posted, if my cup size is 33 how does that translate into A, B, C, etc.
I've similar measurements to OP, 30 under boobs, 33 on boobs.

Jam and Super have a read of the thread called 'small boobs' below, I found it yet after posting this message, is very enlightening indeed. I had ignored it previously thinking it was about err small boobs but is way more than that, have even sent a link to my sisters to see what it does for them.

I've always found it hard to find the right bra size.... After years of wearing a 32B, I went to La Senza and found out I was a 34C. My advice is to just pop in to one of the shops in town.

ouryve · 06/02/2013 15:58

Some of the shops in town are notoriously bad at measuring, though, Brenda. If M&S had their way, I'd be wearing a 38DD simultaneously around my knees and neck. Most of my bras that fit well are 34E or 34F.

Ah the joys of M&S bra fittings! One of their fitters once measured me as a 34B when I was in fact a 30F!!

Sorrel are you there?

So have measured with a bit of string and DH's mansized measuring metal stick thing. Grin

I am a 31 underneath and if I stand bent over at 90degrees I am a 34 round the fattest part of my boob. But I have absolutely no plumpness above the nipple area.

So what size am I?

JamInMyWellies · 06/02/2013 21:04

Sorry I think I should be a 30 D or a 32 C (which I wear now but am getting lots of gaping at the top)

Have posted this on another thread but it's really good info:

Measuring
Measure under your bust (hold the tape tight) to get your band measurement. Do not add on any inches to this measurement. Then measure across the fullest part of your bust. Each 1" of difference between the two measurements equals a cup size. So, let?s say you measure 30" underneath and 35" across? That would give you a starting point of 30DD.

Usually you should take the across bust measurement whilst wearing your best fitting bra (preferably an unpadded one although slight padding shouldn?t make too much of a difference). If you think that your bras are fitting so badly that you'll get a distorted measurement, then measure without a bra, but lean forward so that your boobs are hanging towards the floor (attractive!). The cup size is always harder to get right by measuring than the band size.

Testing the band and cup
To test the band size, put the bra (in this example a 30 back) on back to front on the loosest hooks. If you can breathe but if feels tight and you can only fit two fingers underneath the wire at the front, then that's the correct back size for you. If it's so tight it's unbearable then go up a size.

The cup will differ much more between brands and styles than the back. Turn the bra round the correct way, lean forward then take your right hand and put it inside your left cup. Reach right round under your armpit/towards your back and scoop all the backfat/escapage forward in to the cup of the bra. Repeat at the other side.

Then put the shoulder straps up and adjust as necessary (not too tight as it's the back that should be doing most of the supporting work). If for example, you've started with a 30D, you will probably find that after scooping, you have some bulging over the cup and four-boobage going on! This means you need to go up one or more cup sizes. Keep going up through the cup sizes until all your breast tissue is firmly in place.

Bra myths and D+ denial
There are thousands of women who should be wearing 32 back or smaller and a D+ cup or bigger but:

? They went to M&S for fitting
? They haven't seen anything smaller than a 32 back in the shops
? Have read that [insert a really slim big-boobed celebrity] wears a 36DD and therefore cannot imagine they could need a smaller back/bigger cup (the celebrity in question is of course in a wildly wrong size as well).

So the next time a tiny woman claims to be a 34 bra, you know what to do..

A good fitting bra?
If your bra is a good fit after doing this it should:

? Be worn on the loosest hook (when new). If you can fasten it on the tightest hook then try a back size lower.

? The band should be completely horizontal

? You should only be able to fit a couple of fingers under the front of the bra. If you can get more than that, or you can pull it more than an inch or so away from your body at the back, it is TOO BIG!

? If you raise your arms, the back should not really move - no riding up

? The wires should be entirely encasing your breast tissue - breast tissue goes surprisingly far back and a lot of people don't realise this. If you feel where the wire is sitting under your arm then it should be sitting on a fairly firm surface.

? The central gore (where the wires meet) should sit flat between your boobs. if it is being pushed away, then the cup is probably too small (and the back possibly too big as well)

? There should be absolutely no lumps over the top of the cup. Take a fitted t shirt with you to put over the top of the bra and stand side on to a mirror and watch as you breathe in. If you have a bit of a bulge only when you breathe in, you probably need to go up 1 cup. If it is visible when breathing out then it's probably more like two cups or more.

? The cup shouldn't gape. If it does, it may be too big or it may be the wrong shape of bra for you. Moulded cups are particularly bad for this as they don't adapt to your shape.

? The shoulder straps shouldn't be painful and digging in. Most of the support should come from the back. If you find that you can't get enough support without the straps being so short they hurt the bra isn't for you. Most likely it's too big in the back but it may also just be a bra that doesn't suit you.

? and on that note; not every brand works for every person. There are quite distinct differences in shape between brands which mean a particular brand may just not suit the shape of your breasts.

Jam Yep, try a 30D (can't remember what I've just typed on the other thread!) and a 30C. You could also try a 32B and C but I suspect they'll be too big in the band.

Supersesame

OK, you allow (roughly) 1" for each cup size. So you should try a 30C to start with. Get the back right (see advice above) and then work out the cup. You may very well need a 30D (or larger!).

brenda, what are your measurements? It's not impossible, but rare for women to go up back size when fitted properly. And La Senza is not really known as a great fitting place..
