'nude' lipstick

I want a nude(ish) lipstick that isn't a flat colour but has a bit of an iridescent(?) sheen but isn't too brown iyswim?

I've been watching the RHOBH and have been inspired by their lip shades...

What 'nude' is depends entirely on your lip and skin colour Confused. I guess you're after a pinky-beigeish shade though. Can you get to mac counter?

Yes that's right and yes I can but I get all confuddled when I start looking at lipsticks.

I have fair skin and really blonde hair if that helps.

Kate Moss for rimmel No3 with a pink-caramel gloss on top.
Or Chanel Chic which is very sheer though.
Clinique Delovely Buttershine or Pink-a boo Buttershine.

MAC Creme d?Nude
MAC Jazzed
MAC The Faerie Glen
MaC Cherish
Other Brands Are Available Wink

might be worth a look. THere are plenty of swatches if you do a google image search. You should be able to get a good idea of the tones you fancy - beige based, pinks, corrally, whatever - and maybe even make a shortlist. But, please don't just order somethign. You relaly DO need to try them, IMHO a nude shade a 1/8 th of a shade in the wrong direction can really fuck up the look. With (for example) a bright red, if you do your research there's a damn good chance you can order blind and get it right. A nude shade is such a subtle thign.

posted accidentally, twice Hmm

yeah, the modle in the link has some frekkles on her lip which really help to see show sheer or otherwise the lipstick is. <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.nl/imgres?um=1&hl=nl&client=firefox-a&sa=N&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1173&bih=525&tbm=isch&tbnid=DQTpMDaMpc92dM:&imgrefurl=www.temptalia.com/mac-in-the-groove-collection-lipsticks-review-photos-swatches&docid=BeQLd-zmn3x8CM&imgurl=www.temptalia.com/images/fall2010/review_inthegroove028.jpg&w=550&h=407&ei=XTcAUb_uBorD0QW3lYDgDA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=4&vpy=169&dur=1718&hovh=193&hovw=261&tx=47&ty=99&sig=117994937117526150460&page=1&tbnh=139&tbnw=188&start=0&ndsp=14&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:83" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">the lips naked here

Hug Me! by MAC is my favourite nude colour. Also love Bourjois Rose Innocence number 11 which is slightly more irridescent.

I have Chanel Boy which is quite nude on my lips.

Lisa Eldridge used Boots No7 lip pencil in "Nude" all over the lips and then covered in lipbalm - that was for Kate Winslet at some recent awards thingy in Asia. Looked gorgeous.

that's all well and good, but, what's a perfect nude shade on me might be a nasty pink on you, way to pale on my SIL and somethign else entirely on the next person. Nudes can be fab but should be treated with extreme care.

well sure - but OP asked for opinions and that's what we're giving

I love UNE for lipstick, lot's of nude colours, but they do tend to be quite matt.

I'm sure it's not very cool, but I end up wearing a blistex tinted lipbalm a lot of the time as it's so easy to smear on and has a nice touch of shimmer. here

notMarlene · 23/01/2013 19:33

yup. Shall we have some wine while we're at it? Wine

I really fancy a way too bright fuchsia type pink lipstick but it has to dead matte. Totally. Don't suppose you've got any tips on that?

Pinot · 23/01/2013 19:35

Nars Schlap - Sali Hughes wears this. It's pistol-in-your-knickers pink.

I love that blistex, hugo!

Well yes.
which is why I'm not mentioning my favourite nude.
I don't think it will work on OP's colouring.

Thank you so much :) I will write a list of the ones suggested here and that I like the look of on that link and have a look in Debenhams... I just needed some direction as I always get lost!

What do we think about the really pale pinks? Like the MAC Innocence Beware!? Too young for mid 30s?

My matte fuchsia is Funny Face.
Glossy one is a L'Oreal from last summer, forgot what's it called.

Really pale pinks are awful on everyone, regardless of age. Remind me of frosted lippies that my Mum used to wear

Report
coffeeinbed · 23/01/2013 19:46

Agree.
Pale pink is always evil.
You're better off with a sheer red.

I just skim-read from "pistol-in-your-knickers pink" to coffeeinbed's post and thought her matte fuschia was called Fanny Face.

Anyway, I was going to say character comes into it too, so don't be forced into a colour you don't like just because you're told it's "your" nude. I thought I wanted a nude lipstick, and according to make up counter people everywhere on me this means a pale heather pink. But I just look fucking stupid in pink, I really do. Turns out what I mean by "nude" is actually "almost natural but slightly on the brown side".

Yes a a too pale pink is awful. No knowing if the Innocence Beware! would b e nude or too-pale-pink on you. If you want a nude pink (IYSWIM) it's best to match to the colour of your inner lip.

Nars does seem to be the thing for fuchsias! I like the look of both of those and <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.nl/imgres?hl=nl&client=firefox-a&hs=hLS&sa=X&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1173&bih=525&tbm=isch&tbnid=DIKzBw6WcEfAVM:&imgrefurl=www.temptalia.com/nars-carthage-pure-matte-lipstick-review-photos-swatches&docid=uWHIXN45B4apgM&imgurl=www.temptalia.com/images/summer2011/nars_carthage006.jpg&w=550&h=420&ei=sj4AUaT1ONSY1AWpv4CQDQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=456&vpy=66&dur=217&hovh=196&hovw=257&tx=162&ty=94&sig=117994937117526150460&page=1&tbnh=130&tbnw=170&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:16,s:0,i:130" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">Carthage too.
