So, if you are large of foot, say 7 or above...Do you have large hands too?

Following on from the height / weight thread, and then the height / shoe size thread.

I have size 7 feet, and big hands.

It's something I'm quite conscious about, so never wear 3/4 length sleeves.

If you have man-hands, do you try to disguise them with chunky jewellery?

Do you wear nail varnish?

YY to the shoe shopping nightmare. I've long since given up expecting to find any women's shoes to fit me (and if I wear heels I look like a third rate drag act) , so I wear men's shoes (brogues, plimsolls, desert boots etc) and style it out. Amazing how many men's shoes are actually pretty feminine looking - especially if you go for blues/browns/suede etc etc.

The biggest pain in the arse is specialist shoes for sport (walking/cycling) where the ones that fit me are all black and red with WILDMAN or HELLCAT or similar down the side...

Well, when my DH bought my engagement ring, it didn't quite fit, was a couple of sizes too small. He bought it from a high street jewellers, so I called the branch to see if they had a larger one in stock. When I told him my ring size he laughed and said 'oh god no, we don't stock LADIES rings in that size, you'll have to ring head office and get one specially made'. I got off the phone and I cried and cried and cried. It was the morning after we got engaged and I have never forgotten that. I took it to a different branch and the lovely manager ordered me a replacement and told me how beautiful it looked.

I really really hate my hands.

oh there's a lot of us grin I'm 5'8" ish with size8 feet and proper builders hands (i do manual outdoors work) i have callouses and everything but i still like to paint my nails (when the kids give me a minute) i wear big rings or loads of bracelets but can never get bangles to fit. When i was toned and fit i really did look like a bad transvestite right down to my farmer tan grin classy.

teacher I can relate to that! Dreading going back to work, and having to
wear proper shoes again. smile

Foxy I can only dream of big boobs envy and a flat tummy

teacher123 Wed 28-Nov-12 09:09:56

I have size 8 feet and proper big man hands. Find it very hard to find rings to fit me, and leather gloves are a no no. Shoe shopping is unremitting hell, I hate it. And consequently live for 6 months of the year in flip flops and 6 months of the year in UGG boots. Maternity leave has been brilliant, I haven't had the annual September nightmare of trying to find 'school shoes'!

Im 5ft 10 1/2 with 8/9 feet.
My actual hands aren't massive, its the long skinny fingers attached to them that look weird! Tiny wrists and slim fingers, I always have my nails done and wear quite dainty rings/bracelets otherwise they look rank!
I have finger toes that you could scale a wall with!
Am usually a size 8/10 with big boobs so hope that draws attention away from my long alien like digits!

Size 6.5/7 feet with really small hands! They are chunky though, I dislike them. Wear chunky rings, small and dainty rings look bloody awful.

Nice one Pragmatic wink

PragmaticWench Tue 27-Nov-12 17:56:04

Boerwar mentioned dainty jewellery not working with big hands - this was the reason I gave DH for needing a larger engagement ring with lots of stones. grin

tabulahrasa Tue 27-Nov-12 14:38:44

I've got size 7 feet and tiny hands, I've also got a little head and fit in children's hats - I suspect I might in fact be a hobbit...

BoerWarKids Tue 27-Nov-12 14:31:46

I'm a shade under 5'7. I'm size 7 shoe, sometimes an 8.

I do have big hands but I'm horribly overweight at the moment, so where I had long fingers and slim wrists when I was a 12-14, at a size 18 (not for much longer, I hope) my hands look really chunky and fat.

I wear big statement rings. Small dainty jewellry wouldn't suit me at all. I've never worn bracelets or a watch. I have a big head too sad I can never find hats that fit.

I've accepted that even when I'm slim and toned I'm always going to be 'big-boned' so I'll never be petite and doll-like.

yani Tue 27-Nov-12 12:29:37

Sorry, I can't help but find myself chuckling at all the self-depreciation comments on here, you could easily be describing me. grin

In the nicest possible sense, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Hats I seem ok with, although, again I do have a larger head than most must be all the mush up there however finding gloves that fit is a pain.

smile

ditto pumpkin head
no hat shopping for me ever

When I was young I was completely crucified by all of this. There is no diet to reduce your head, hands, feet joints etc. I was just really tall and happened to be friends with girls who were under average height and very petite.
I felt so so different.

I wish someone had told me how I'd end up looking

(like a foam handed, clown footed, pumpkin headed BEEYOUTY)

Jamdoughnutfiend Mon 26-Nov-12 14:07:11

I am just big all over - hands feet head - I am all in proportion, but you would never call me dainty! Can't buy shoes/hats/gloves/tights/socks from the high street, the list in endless. But, at the ripe old age of 35, am finally happy and confident in my own (big) skin. So i wear whatever i like and suits me and ignore the dainty little elfin people that ised to make me feel so self concious. Just wish shoe shopping was easier grin

Yokel Mon 26-Nov-12 13:13:56

Oh, and I'm 5'7" so not exactly statuesque...

Yokel Mon 26-Nov-12 13:12:58

This thread is hilarious - and what a relief to discover I'm not the only ape-armed, shovel-handed, clown-footed Tefal scientist around here.

Size 42 feet (on a good day) - massive flapping hands like a goalie, which I actually really like - I think they make me look striking and capable. Would hate tiny little doll hands and feet like pony hooves. [defiant]

auldspinster Mon 26-Nov-12 13:04:09

I too have big problems getting hats to fit - my head circumference is 63cm - I'm like one of the tefal boffins (showing my age).

LittleFriendSusan Mon 26-Nov-12 12:41:23

5ft5, size 6.5-7 shoes here and massive hands. Broad rather than particularly long - my hands are much wider than DP's. I also have large knuckles with very defined rolls of skin. I always think my hands are a bit ape-like. Don't I sound delightful? grin

I avoid rings as feel they draw attention to my hands, and also I find if they fit past my knuckles, they are too loose around the base of my fingers. Jewellery-wise, I can't usually get bangles etc over my hands, but don't mind a chunky watch or cuff, or a bracelet with a clasp. I have yet to find nice leather gloves which are a comfortable fit.

I avoided nail varnish for years, as again thought it would draw unwanted attention to my man-hands, but had a nice French gel-type manicure this summer (shortish nails) and found my hands did actually look slightly more feminine. Also don't mind short dark-coloured nails now either. I have very dry hands too so have been really trying hard recently to get them in better shape.

Frame / weight -wise, I weigh a lot heavier than I look so think I am just big-boned. I also struggle to get hats to fit!

MrsMorton Sun 25-Nov-12 14:51:58

I've got size 8 feet (they are lovely though, just big) my hands are huge, the same size as H but I'm 5'5" and he's 6'4". They call me Edwina shovel hands at work. My hands are huge but again, they are well formed, my wrists are tiny though. I often can't get shirts on without undoing the cuffs but my fingers are long and slim.

I have size 7 feet and ridiculously small hands. I do have large wrists, though. My frame in general is large (size 14, 5'8", large chest - wrist measurement puts me as a 'large frame'), but my hands are positively child-like with fat fingers

yani Sat 24-Nov-12 21:45:45

Crikey...go away for a few hours, and lots of replies smile

Dh is tall, and like others I do feel feminine and less clunky when out with him.

Jewellery wise, I tend to wear several thinner bracelets or hinged bangles.

My big hands came in handy(!) when I used to be a waitress, carrying several plates of food in one hand. grin

DrinkFeckArseGirls Sat 24-Nov-12 20:31:45

No.

WholeLottaRosie Sat 24-Nov-12 20:31:29

Evans sell bangles that are designed to go over large wrists, last year I bought a heap of thin metal ones just so I could jangle them about - haven't been able to do that since I was about twelve grin
