Fancied a positive thread...

This evening I made porridge for dd and dsds supper. The following conversation ensued.

Dsd - "can I have the small lumps?"
Me - "yes??"
Dsd - "yaaaaay you're the best mum ever"

I guess sometimes it is the little things.

And I still have no idea what the lump thing was about Grin

DSD - you look more like you're in your late 20s (I'm 34)

She is pre-teen so I'm making the most of it before all the "you're not my muuuuuuuuum" and "you can't tell me what to do" starts in the teens. I was a vile teen so fully bracing myself. DSD is lovely were very lucky.

Dss and dsd came in tonight went straight up to the baby and gave her hugs, she giggled loads and dss said he had missed her laugh. He is such a fab big brother

My teen DSD asked to come round the other day, just us two as our DCs were at school and DH (her dad) was working. We just chatted and watched a geeky DVD (anime that DH just doesn't appreciate Wink), then went to pick up DCs from school, it was lovely :)

My gorgeous dss gave me a huge hug when he saw me yesterday and wouldn't let me leave until he had given me at least ten kisses (he's 6).

DSS is just lovely generally. He is 17 but has so far not done the teenage stroppiness. He still seems to enjoy going places with us, and is really good with his annoying 6 year old brother, even if he does give me frequent heart attacks by dangling him upside down by his ankles!Grin

My DSD made a Father's Day card and wrote 'Next year you'll have two of these' referring to her little or brother or sister due this year. Very, very sweet.

She has also been a huge help around the house recently, all unprompted and without any moaning.

She told her Dad that I am funnier than he is (which is true, of course Grin).

ESS did all the washing up when I went to bed early (because I was exhausted).

Also when I told him how much my life insurance would pay out if I died, he thought for a couple of minutes and said "we'd still rather have you here". Grin

DSD had her graduate fashion show this week, when we went to see it she gave me a big hug and said to her mates 'this is my stepmum'.

Sometimes its just the little things Smile

In our step family I'm daddy's girlfriend, not step mum. It's not been discussed, it just is what it is and all of us are fine with it. In my adult head daddy's girlfriend and step mum are pretty much one and the same for me and our family, but my DSD5 hasn't really clicked I'm her step mum, and that's ok.
So at the weekend she told me it wasn't fair that mums and dads get a day every year with presents and cards but I don't, and that there should be a People Day so that I got a present and a card :D
It just made me realise that yeah it's tough and I find it stressful, but it's absolutely bloody worth it as the relationship we're building is awesome :)

Both of mine (they are adults) called to wish me a happy Mother's Day. Smile

Mine are both teens.
DSS mowed the lawn of his own volition.
And DSD asked me for help with her love-life, even asked me questions about my own (past!) problems with boys.

Oh, and less recent, but they gave me a necklace for Mother's Day - the first time they've given me a present for Mother's Day. :)

Ah these are so sweet :) My kids don't really see me as stepmum ,I'm their dad's girlfriend ,but we still get on pretty well. Little things like DSD putting pictures of my kids ,her half siblings ,on Facebook when this time a few years back it would've caused world war 3 with their mother. Or when the kids remember to clear up their mess because they know that I appreciate a tidy place :) (they tend not to for their father ,lol).
It's the little things that please me :)

Today me and my DP got matching pedicures care of DSD(5), splashed in the paddling pool, managed a meal time with minimal battles, watched a film and then she went to bed and was asleep in ten minutes! Was lovely :D oh and she ran to me on the sofa to give me a snuggle and spent the majority of the film laid out on me like her own personal sofa :D

Christ she is like me and OH in our home, the number of times I love you gets happily said a day I can't count in times but I can in happiness. At the weekend when she was playing she brought me a little flower she picked. It made me grin but especially as it reminds me of a time my car broke down and I had to stand her and her dad on the grass verge in horrific rush hour traffic in blistering heat and she didn't grumble a single time just made me a bunch of hedgerow flowers.

Big hug from DSS yesterday as I'm feeling like death-warmed-up with a summer cold. No urgh daisychain is all germy and horrible, just arms around the neck and poooooor daisychain.

It perked me up no end!

I am SOOOOO EXCITED! For the first time ever, finally the tooth fairy needs to come to our house! I am so excited!

I thought she was going to have to come about 4 years ago and bought a really nice fairy ornament for her to bring. I hope I can still find it!

Well done SD's mum for putting the tooth somewhere safe for her drive to us today, that was a nice thing to do.

Not so recent but my adult DSS's took me out a few days after mothers day for 'step mothers day'. I had a lovely lunch and quite a few G & T's. They also apologised for not doing this every year since I have known them and have vowed to make it an annual thing. Very sweet and brought a tear to my eye. Smile

DSD made a photo collage of herself and my DD1 with 'best mum' and 'no.1 mum' all over it. She's also claiming loudly that she can't come over when DH is at work (her mums rules, I'm not supposed to look after her).
