F1 silly season

It's getting very silly now with these rumours of Alonso going to Red Bull- can't see it happening. I hope it won't be Kimi either. Seb needs a good number 2 behind him, someone that won't challenge him for the championship. I reckon Ricciardo is Red Bull's best bet.

And now there are rumours that Ferrari have made Kimi an offer. Does anyone except me care? Grin

I was hoping someone else on here would be talking about F1 but i have only just found this very small sports thread so here i am :)

I cant see Alonso going to RBR because he likes to be top dog just look what happened with him a Mclaren it just wont work plus Seb does not want him to be in the other side of the garage and since he is the pet of RBR it is just not going to happen

Kimi is a bit of a dark horse with this move to RBR when i first heard about it i did not think anything of it i thought literally here we go with the silly season again but i think it is gaining more traction because he has not been paid or has only just been paid by Lotus and he has been unhappy to say the least that they have failed to pay him for so long plus he is a race winner so i think he is going to end up at RBR and he is definitely not going to go to Ferrari to much bad blood after they let him go to bring in Alonso

I do not think Massa has a seat a Ferrari for next year he has had 4 crashes in as many races and i do not know what has happened to him but i think he is dropping backwards in the grid possibly to Williams or maybe even Lotus

I really want Di Resta to move from Force India because he is a good driver and he is having some really bad luck with them and i know they are punching way above their weight in terms of there finances and where they are in the championship but still they keep making mistakes which means he has to come from the back of the field to keep scoring points which he does but he shouldn't have to so i think he is going to move hopefully up the grid to the vacant Ferrari seat Massa is going to leave

I think Williams are going to keep both their drivers because they bring in sponsorship i think its something like £30 million for Pastor which as i can see is the only reason they are keeping him because there are much better drivers in the field and i cant remember off the top of my head how much the sponsorship is of Bottas but its definitely enough to keep him at the team especially since they have only scored one point this season (due to no small part because of Saubers retirement) and it does not look likely that they are going to score any more realistically that car can barely get out of qually 1 and they know it

Apologies for my rather large posts but its will be good to talk about F1 with someone who doesn't think i am weird :)

It is nice to talk about F1 without getting a blank look and "isn't it just some cars going round in circles?".

Think you're right about the Williams line-up; wasn't there some doubt about Maldonado's sponsorship money after the death of Chavez though? Maldonado has moments where he's pretty quick, when he's not crashing into someone or something.

I don't know how Kimi would get on at Red Bull- they need someone that will do as they're told, not someone that will fuck off for an ice cream halfway through a race. Also they are big on media stunts and he's meant to hate that kind of thing. I'd hate to see him as a number 2 driver, he could easily win the championship again given the right car and the right team.

I had to laugh when some journo asked Alonso what he'd like for his birthday and he said 'Someone else's car'. Apparently he got a massive dressing down from Luca di Montezemolo for that one. Ferrari need a kick up the backside though - they're the richest team by far - so you'd think they could win some races on a regular basis. They were only decent when they had Schumacher working with them.

That was brilliant Grin He must be getting so pissed off, he's driving his socks off and that car is just slow. Ferrari have no excuse, hopefully the staff shake-up will improve things.

I like having discussions with people who understand it is not just about driving round in circles (the tracks are generally oval with curves anyway) but that these drivers are extremely in shape i mean look at Jenson and his triathlons he does i mean none of them are in it for a easy life

I don't know what it is about Maldonado i just can't take to him i am not sure what is it but it just makes me a little sad that Williams have gone so far backwards this year i mean how can you make so many mistakes but then again look at Mclaren they just went in the totally wrong direction and are struggling to get out of it which is a shame because Jenson seems like such a nice bloke i want him to be at least challenging for the title

I think my issue is with so many pay drivers in the sport and thats why maybe i slightly do not like Maldonado, Max chilton whose dad is paying for him to be in F1 and the idea that possibly nico Hulkenberg is going to be pushed out of Sauber not because he is going to walk because again they are not paying him but because they are going to be forced to put Sergey Sirotkin in a seat because of these Russian investors however i would like him to move up the grid rather than out the sport completely

When Alonso was talking about getting a new car i knew that would not go down well he has been very outspoken recently which is unlike Ferrari they are very much lets close ranks and not talk to anyone about our issues unless he wants to be fired like Alan Prost did back in 91 i think it was when he said how bad the car was but i do doubt it because if you talk out of turn like that i doubt RBR are going to hire you

Kimi recently talked about the whole PR thing in a press conference i am sure and said something along the lines of how it is only reported he does 10 days of PR and he said it was rubbish that he doesn't like it but he does more than that however you have to think he is moving from Lotus there is nowhere else he can go except RBR is there unless he goes 180 and goes to Mercedes if Nico R ends up somewhere else but i just dont logically see it

What do you think is going to happen to Roman? is he staying at Lotus do you think or moving elsewhere or out the sport ??

Signing in Grin
I'm mainly interested in what Kimi is doing, I'm a big fan!

I read before he even came back that RBR would give him a seat if he did well.
Kimi being Kimi though no way will he be no2, and nor should he.

Your name makes me smile EauRouge

Hello, Netto, I remember you from previous F1 threads.

All the stuff in the news about Grosjean makes me laugh, Bouiller is always defending him- well, he would, being his manager. He's the same as Maldonado- he has good moments when he's not crashing, but he crashes a lot.

I hate the whole pay driver thing too. I get that teams need the money to help develop the cars but I don't want to see any old rich kid behind the wheel, let's have some talent as well.

I have a huge soft spot for Kimi i always used to feel bad for him for his horrific luck that he had at Mclaren but this season and last season has made me laugh especially driving off the wrong way at brazil with the excuse that the gate used to be open i mean who else could get away with it except him and saying Perez needed a punch in the face after Monaco ... come to think of it he would be a bit of a PR nightmare for RBR wouldn't he but it would be so much fun to watch him in a extraordinary car

My mind is out on Grosjean he does seem to crash a lot i mean Spa last year was horrific but he just is not consistant enough and your right if Boullier was not his manager you could imagine his tone being a lot different

I fully expected Lotus to have put massive rubber bumpers on Grosjean's car by now Grin He must be costing them a fortune in new bodywork.

I'm another who really hope DiResta gets a decent team and car next year. He has the potential to be great in the right car.

Interested to see the outcome of the RBR/Alonso rumours.

Another one here hoping for DiResta to get a good seat next year; he's got so much potential. I'd love to see him get the RBR or Ferrari drive but I think Ricciardo is looking good for the former at the mo. Tbh, I like him too, he seems like a decent bloke unlike Alonso who I think is vile

Grosjean is improving but I still hold my breath every time he tries to pass someone! Think he needs some sort of a Star Trek style force shield around his car Grin

I want a t-shirt that says, 'I was busy taking a shit'.

Have you been to Spa?
Eau Rouge is so steep, I know that sounds silly, but it really is, I had to walk down it sideways so as not to fall down.

Report
EauRouge · 31/07/2013 21:42

Yes, we went in 2007 and had seats right at the top of Eau Rouge. I think we're still paying for them Grin but it was worth it. I couldn't get over how steep it was either, they had Mini Cooper racing as one of the support races and several of them took off. I'd shit myself driving up there at full speed.

I'd like to see DiResta at Ferrari, that'd be good. I don't know how much longer they'll hang on to Massa.

My favourite Kimi quote is "Well in summer there?s fishing and shagging And in winter the fishing is bad" all said with that look

Maybe thats the reason Lotus has been having money troubles all the crashes Grosjean has been having he has probably single handedly doubled each weekends bodywork budget

I can't see Kimi move to RBR although if he does I think it would wind Vettel up no end, same with Alonso - Vettel is used to the fairly diplomatic Webber and neither Kimi nor Alonso would quietly play second fiddle. Hope Kimi stays with Lotus, I think the team suits him.

I think Massa will hang on another season but I'm more interested in Rob Smedley, he bleeds Ferrari red so will he stay there when the time comes or move with his best pal I luffs him

I have the Kimi tshirt (different design though, it's my pride and joy!) and Eau Rouge is phenomenal, in fact thought Spa itself was stunning all round apart from the bastard wasps.

Fanfic? No i was just in my head thinking how close you have to be to hold hands and literally skip down the paddock ... just a little bit of innocent mind wandering

I was going to google fanfic but after your shuddering maybe i won't, am i really out of the loop that i don't know what that is?

NOOOO, do not google fanfic. I didn't know what it was either and I wish I could un-know.

Has anyone heard any more rumours about Ferrari's line up for next year? I've been googling but keep finding silly season rumours from 2007 Hmm
