Always, always remove make up and moisturise before bed, no matter how drunk tired you may be. You will be glad you did in the morning.

Top tips.
Don't smoke. Drink lots of water. Remind yourself tea is not water.

Get lots of sleep. Hah hah you are on Mumsnet and lots of sleep for most of us is a distant memory. Go back to not smoking and drinking water.

Agreed - I remove make-up with cleanser, rinse with water then moisturise every night before bed. I've got oily skin and avoided moisturisers for a long time, but this simple routine makes such a difference for me.

Use a cleanser and toner (not those wipes) to take off makeup and eye makeup remover too.

Always take off makeup or cleanse skin if nothing on. then moisturise.

and exfoliate and use a face mask however times a week you need to do this (face mask usually once a week).

My tips are probably not what Sanctuary want to hear!

I rarely wear make up. i.e. only on key occasions like weddings, interviews, etc. The rest of the time my skin is just left as it comes, which seems to work pretty well to keep it happy and healthy. After all, the same works for men! There are a lot less of them that feel the need to moisturise.

Don't use excessive amounts of soap, cleanser or shampoo or use them too regularly. Otherwise you're stripping your skin/hair of all the natural oils that protect and nourish it.

Protect from strong sunlight by staying in shade or applying sun block as needed - which isn't every single time the sun comes out in this country. You do need some sunlight absorption!

Drink plenty, eat a varied and healthy diet, get exercise.

1). Baby oil removes every type of make-up, even heavy foundation and clown white. Rub it all over you face, including the eyes and remove with a warm wet/ damp flannel. Make sure that all of it is removed. It makes your skin really soft and there is no need to moisturise afterwards.

  1. Remember that you should clean your face every evening, even if you don't have make- up on.

lots of sleep, lots of water, remove make up before bed, try and have a make up free day every week.
Try and use a moisturiser with a sunscreen in.

Always remove make-up with a gentle cleanser, toner, eye-make-up remover, then splash face with ice cold water and moisturise while still a little damp to lock in moisture. Always wear high factor sunscreen whatever the season and don't wear too much make-up in the sun! Exfoliate a couple of times a week and do a face pack once a week.

Always use products to suit your age and skin type and try and buy products that contain an SPF, the higher the better! Avoid products that contain harsh chemicals, ingredients, and artificial perfume. Especially if you have sensitive skin. Try not to rub your eyes when removing eye make up as this can cause damage (and wrinkles) in the delicate eye area, use gentle sweeping movements, for more stubborn eye make up, close your eyes and gently press a cotton wool pad with cleanser on each lid for 10 seconds or so before you start to sweep. Also, don't use too much eye cream as this can actually cause puffiness as it can saturate & weigh down the delicate skin around them. Invest in a good exfoliate and face mask too!! :)

  1. Banish stress from your life. Or at least, learn coping strategies. Does wonders for your general health and skin.

  1. Stay natural. Don't use too many products and whatever your use, try the ones with the least chemical nasties.

  1. A spoonful of chickpea flour mixed with a few drops of milk or rosewater is THE best cleanser/exfoliant.

Don't smoke, wear sunscreen and wear a hat in the sun, and limit your alcohol intake to no more than a couple of units a week.

Use olive oil to remove waterproof mascara.

Eat lots of fruit and veg, particularly those high in antioxidants like avocado, tomatoes, apples (apples also help keep your teeth white!)

Drink water.

Do yoga!

If you're having a miserable day, use the nicest body products you have. Don't save them for a rainy day. Instead, think to yourself, 'My dear, it's pouring.' and slather them on with abandon.

The last time I did this was a few months ago when my 4 month old baby wouldn't sleep AT ALL. Felt like the walking dead. Coincidentally the stuff I used was a Sanctuary body butter - the one with the red top (I forget the name). The lovely smell and ritual of smoothing it on made me feel just better enough to face the next (interminable) day.

Don't sunbathe.

Always wear sun lotion on your face and neck, and a hat when in strong sun.

Replace part used lotions and potions once they have been open longer than the recommended time. This is indicated on the side of the bottle by an open pot symbol with a time limit (usually 12 months).

I make sure that I always moisturise my hands before bed, as they are less likely to dry out during the day then.

I don't use shaving foam/gel when shaving my legs (on the very odd occasion that I do it..... i like the furry look). As i'm too lazy to use body lotion I rub a big blob of hair conditioner onto my legs then shave them. It's a great way of shaving and moisturising at the same time. Also means I can take less bottles on holiday with me.

Of course if I were lucky enough to try out some Sanctuary stuff I may be converted to using body lotion Wink

Vaseline on nails and cuticles overnight- much better than any cuticle oil. Stronger, more beautiful nails within a week!

Oats in the bath help calm my skin down when it is flaring up.

Also I make sure I have a water bottle on the go with me at work which avoids me succumbing to too many coffees.

Keep a tube of hand cream in your bedside drawer and apply it just before you go to sleep. It will have a whole night to work its magic.

If applying self tanning body lotion rub a little bit of moisturiser onto the dry areas first - knees, ankles, elbows etc. This will prevent them soaking up too much lotion and going too dark.
