We waited 4 months to see the Paed. After that there was another 3-4 month wait for a full assessment.

we havent seen a paed yet, just 2 psychologists. Is there no strict order in which professional you would see first then?

i wish there were.... seems to be no set way...and route to diagnosis.

having observed the child at school and in clinic with parents she refers to the SALT for ASD to observe and report on the child for signs etc.... then if the SALT agrees she gets the parents to complete a D.I.S.C.O (Diagnostic Interview for Social&Communication Disorders)with her...takes 2 - 3 hours to do this...by this point in both my boys it was a formality and i left both times with a verbal diagnosis of AS...and a written report to confirm within 2 weeks

It seems to vary quite a bit, I think. We waited three months to see the psychiatrist with a first appointment in January. The order of seeing professionals has, in our case, depended on their individual waiting lists. Psych referred us to clinical psychologist rather than Ed Psych because the waiting lists were shorter (and she was aware we'd been 'assessed' before and things were getting worse), but we're still waiting for SALT six months later, despite it being chased up.

It seems to vary. With ds1 we were referred to the SALT first. That took 6 months of waiting for an assessment and 6 months of waiting for actual therapy. By that time it was fairly obvious that there was more going on than just delayed speech so the SALT referred us to the Paed.

With ds2 we got a referral for the Paed first and then the multi-disciplinary assessment. The referral for SALT was made at the end of the assessmentand ds2 had his first session about a month later.

It varies so much. Where I live it is up to two years. My ds was diagnosed within two years and I remember the Ed Psych thought it was a short wait
