Swine flu jab.......

got a letter home from school with dd today to say she is getting it on Friday! beacause she is at a special school for schildren with severe learning difficulties, dunno if i should be worried or releaved
I had my swine flu jab 2 weeks ago, (nhs front line) I had a big reaction, aching shivery etc.
ds had his last week, not a big reaction a bit grizzly a day later, we were told he had to go back 3 weeks later, but was looking on tinternet and came accross a study in spain which showed that out of 200 children recieving the first vaccine, 100% had shown a bigger immune response than was expected. so ds is not going for his second one.
and i'm still bfing so should get some anti-bodies from me
DD2 and I had our swine flu (Pandemrix) and seasonal flu jabs together on Saturday.
She is absolutely fine, not even a sore arm.
I had a strong immune response 12 hours after having it that lasted about 12 hours - high temp, headache, felt off colour but am fine now, not even a sore arm.
DD2 will be having the second dose in 3 weeks.
My dd1 had her first dose last Tuesday, and has been fine, hasn't even complained that her arm hurt (which she did after the seasonal flu jab)
Mitchell81 she was fine, her arm ached a bit but one dose of paracetamol and it was ok, she didn't even milk it.
I had my jab on Monday (because I have a qualifying underlying condition). I was given a leaflet which says there are TWO types on the vaccine, Pandemrix (nice name) which is one jab only and Celvapan which is two jabs. You would think they'd give the one dose only to those who have behavioural issues and other difficulties!
But I am confused now. I heard that the vaccine was NOT going to be offered to Carers, unlike the seasonal flu jab, and Carers UK was kicking up a stink about it. But today I got a mailshot from my LA, Children Schools & Families Dept (i.e not the health authority), offering me a jab as a carer of someone vulnerable. Maybe they are allowed to make their own rules locally? I will see if DH wants it and see if I can switch it to him as he is a hypercondriac (sp?)
Had school phone this morning saying lots of kids and parents off school with flu like symptoms. My GP has recommended keeping her off school until next week when she gets the vaccine and decide then what we should do.
The vaccine can't come quick enough now.
Going in now to pick her up.
My boy (asd) had it, as did I - we both have heart conditions so I'm not taking any risks with what can be a very serious illness. No side effects apart from sore arm.
it is very worrying, all under 10's get 2 1/2 doses, as far as i know there is only one vacine, H1N1 vacine its called. they get the second jab 3 weeks after the first. i got it myself last week and my arm was really sore a few days later, i could not bare to move it- felt like a massive bee sting. i think thats why the little ones get it in 2 doses. my dd didnt even have a mark afterward.
Mumof3monkeys, Thanks. Do all children have to have two doses? Do you know which vaccine it is?
I know I can't risk DD getting swine flu but I am still worried. Nice to hear from people whos DC have had it.
mitchell81 justs to let you know dd aged 5 got her 2 swine flu jabs in the last month and was totally fine afterwards- didnt even need calpol
