My ds is being tested for CF- any experience?

My dear little boy turned 2 last week. When he was 13 months he got bronchiolitis which lead to pneumonia and he spent a week on a ventilator as his little lungs just could not cope. Since then we have had recurrent chest infections and problems- he is treated for asthma, on antibiotics a lot of the time and doesnt eat very well so he is small. He aspirated a foreign body in April and had to have a bronchoscopy and all his xrays from the time of ventilation to now show nasty areas within his lungs.

We are waiting for a CT scan to find out more. So far the only diagnosis we have is Chronic lung disease but as for a cause or prognosis we have no idea.

Tomorrow our little boy is being tested for CF and also having his general immunology tested. I am terrified of what teh results may be as having read about CF my son shows a lot of the symptoms. I come from a large family and their is no other occurrence and I know that Isaac's symptoms could be any number of things- but the idea of CF just scares me.

Does anybody have any experience of the sweat test or the disease itself?

Thanks for listening

K

Hello Skinnylizzy. Sorry that you have worries about your son's health.

My dd was due to have a sweat test but it didn't go ahead as they found out what was the cause of her problems. There are definitely some on MN who have had it. Maybe copy your post into the Health section too. Also there's a link here to a thread callingCF mums. If you post on it hopefully someone will come along soon to offer support.

Hi,
DS2 had the sweat test. It wasnt that bad - they taped a small plastic pot with a bit of material to the inside of his arm and took it off an hour later. The worst thing was waiting around in the hospital for an hour, but there were lots of toys to play with. The results took twoweeks to come through, but fortunately it was negative so I can't help you with the disease itself.
Good luck, I hope it all goes ok for you XXXX

Hi Skinnylizzy,

I don't know anything about CF, but I can read the concern and worry you have.

Hope the test went "well" and you are able to get to the bottom of your DS's lung problems.

All the best,
