When I was going through school I was the top scoring student. Straight A's everytime. We used to have a couple of girls who whenever we had exams always sat at the back with a special needs teacher to help and everyone used to look down on them, including me, like they were stupid or something. I used to say hello to the girls, but to be honest, felt sorry for them.

Now I'm a proud mother of a beautiful little girl who is almost definately dyslexic (seeing paediatrician about it). She is almost 3 and has the understanding of a 1 year old. She's behind in practically everything and I'm petrified about how she will cope in life. It makes me cry just thinking about it and I can't help but think about those girls at school and know that it would break my heart for someone to pity my dd because of this.

Hello, I am not experienced in this myself but I do understand how you feel, did you know that Richard Branson is severley dyslexic and he's done rather well for himself. I am sure with the right education and help she'll be ok.
Big hugs

Unfortunately kids are kids. Some will pity, some may tease, some may even bully. BUT others will help they will support and adore your DD like all their other friends.
You will rise above it and so will your DD...and to be honest those that can't..stuff 'em!

My DD is just 6 and has DS, I have done a lot of soul searching over the past years and my DD is at long last supported in a mainstream school and is adored by many. Yes, she still gets the odd sideways glance but she gets far more hugs and waves than any other child I know!!
Be strong!

AFAIK you can't dx dyslexia until 7/8? Just that ds has a couple of friends in his class and they had to wait until then.
Sorry to hear that you are worried

are you sure it's not some sort of dyspraxia you mean rather than dyslexia? I was gifted at languages at school, and now DS has major problems with language, it is a bit odd realy isn't it. I think at this age it's important to focus on where they are now and how to improve on that, just to survive mentally - spending all the time worrying about the future means that you make yourself miserable in the here and now. It is tough when you have to admit to yourself that things aren't going smoothly.
